Hop Effect essence

Any folks here have much experience with using higher amounts of Hop Effect Cascade essence?
I recently brewed a triple ipa with an OG of 100 and about 100 ibu's of this essence. It finished with a rather harsh astringency that I attribute to the hop essence.
Is there an effective limit to how many ibu's one can add with this product?
I was trying to avoid having to use the 8 ozs of pellets required to get to the target ibu, as it produces sooo much trub. Cheers.

I've used similar products.
At what points in the boil did you add them?
From my experience, they seem to be a bit stronger anyway.

I added all at the start of a 90 minute boil as I planned to dry hop with aroma pellets after fermentation.
