Just having finished my SMaSH ale, I decided to cut open the hop bags after cleanup.

The 60 minute hops had ZERO aroma to them, whilst the 15 minute hops had very little.

Nothing specific to point out, except that its amazing how 1 hour of boiling will render the hops totally bland!

Cheers

Did you actually taste them?

I bet they were not real bland.

In my banana beer I ate a banana slice that was in the partial boil. Oh $hit - it was bitter than f*ck!!!

There were no hops used just hopped extract in a partial boil.

I needed to wash my mouth out with milk & crackers. I could have scoured my tongue w/ SOS pad it was so bad! It was so f'ng bitter, for so long it was unbelievable.

I don't recomend it!!! :D - Really!!!

There will still be plenty of bittering compounds, even after 60 minutes. In a typical wort, only 20-30% of the compounds have isomerized. The dissolving/boil-off of aroma and flavor oils are very time dependent. That's why you can use the same hop for bittering, flavor and aroma.
