I have heard mixed reviews about putting honey in a pale ale. My plan is to go with 1.5 lbs in a typical pale ale with cascades. Is it worth it, or does it not do much for the style? My other option is to put it in a porter.

All depends on what you want it to do. Do you want to raise your ABV and dry out your beer? Use it. Do you want some honey flavor? Use 4-8 oz. honey malt. I use honey fairly frequently to raise the ABV on various types of beers. Basically, if a recipe calls for sugar, I use honey(I have a cheap source).
I also use 1 lb. of honey in my porter. It doesn't add any honey flavor or aroma, but does lighten it up a bit. I've had too many porters that should be called stouts.

Thanks man. So, putting it in the porter just takes away a bit of the bite? I'm thinking of putting it in a porter, but was thinking what's the point if the black patent just drowns it out.

My porter has 8oz. choco malt, no roast barley, no black patent. Enough to give it a good porter character without too much. (I also use 1lb Brown malt and 1lb amber malt)
