The Buyer I contacted on the matter of scented / unscented, for "Family Dollar" stores, told me, that SHE was told, that it's all made in the same
"factories", wherever they may be.

I ran with it!

It seems that around me, no one carries powder 7th Generation dishwasher detergent. Can it be subbed out with any other detergent? Seems I can only find stuff like Cascade Complete in powder form. Is that an equivalent?

I don't know about a sub, but I gave up on finding it and one day just happen to come across it at Kroger. Hope that helps if you hadn't checked out Kroger yet

You can get it at Amazon - not sure if it ships free with Prime or not. I mix my brewery wash with just Sun oxygen and TSP 90 (two thirds / one third). I then add liquid 7 Gen unscented as needed when soaking. Or I can use the liquid by itself when cleaning stainless.

I ended up finding it at my Target. Not sure why couldn't find it there in the first place (I seem to have a problem find stuff right in front of my face, or so I've been told). I couldn't source the TSP sub, so I went with the real thing. My diy pbw seems to be doing the trick!

Thanks again, OP, for helping with the recipe formation!

So, Morebeer has a 50 pound tub of normal PBW on sale for $179.99 right now. That puts it at $3.60/pound. Looking at the costs in the first post of this of the DIY being $1.70/pound, and I know myself and most people on here probably spent more than that on the DIY, the $1.70/pound is best case I believe.

I'm honestly not sure how much I spent on the DIY last time I made it, I'm sure it's still much better than $3.60/pound and can probably figure out how much if I find receipts, etc, but I'm curious what everyone else is spending on the DIY recipe. I'll figure my cost out and post here once I do, but anyone else know what your cost per pound is?

Mine was 2.63/lb Canadian$. But I only had to invest in 16$ worth to get those savings instead of 180$ worth tied up. My figures include all taxes.

Mine is about half of local sales which puts it around $3.75. It's easy to make and I don't need to store 50 lbs of it. I just need to find sun oxygen cleaner now since Walmart apparently doesn't sell it anymore.

I made this up the other day and used after brewing - works great and I calculated $2.65/lb. I'm a convert.

Subscribe.

Haha, just kidding.

But seriously, after a good 10 minutes of intense internet searching, I was unable to find sun oxygen cleaner... amazon and walmart (amongst a myriad of other online retailers) no longer carry it, apparently. Does anyone have any good substitutions for it?

Thanks! The Oxo Brite seems like it'll do the trick, but after a bit of research I came to find that this product contains Sodium Metasilicate as well...

So would using this product potentially take the place of the Red Devil TSP as well?

Here's a link to the manufacturer's website and the product's specs:
http://www.ecos.com/oxo.html#spec

AND I just noticed something... the specs say not to mix with Acid products... and the Seventh Generation has Citric Acid in it... so maybe Oxo Brite is not a good alternative to Sun Oxygen Cleaner? :(

Is this even still an issue with PBW being so low cost now? I get that when this was written 3 years ago PBW was more expensive (looks like up to $9/lb, yikes!). But now I routinely get 4lb refills from my LHBS for $12 ($3/lb), so it would seem that it may actually be more expensive to create your own now when you factor in spending time sourcing the ingredients and mixing it yourself, etc.

Thats a good value LHBS you got there. Im seeing about $4/lb from online vendors for either 50 lb tubs or about same price/lb for 4lb refill bags.

Dude, that's super cheap! The best deal I've found (in a reasonable amount; I don't have the room to store 50 lbs of the stuff at a time) is $50 for an 8 lb jar... that's $6.25/lb.

I'm going to call my LHBS later to see if they do PBW refills, cuz that's an amazing deal you've got there.
