Has anyone tried it? Thinking about building one out of 304. Stainless is easy to weld. I have the equipment. So why not?! I just saw the toledo metal spinning site and the hoppers they sell. 60 degree cones. That makes the cone part easy. :D

Anyway, I was looking to see if anyone has done this on their own and the lessons they have learned.

Sounds like a good idea that could net you a conical and save you some money. The only drawback I see would be the welds. Welds are notorious for harboring contaminants, bacteria etc. Plus, by the time you weld on the cone, cut and weld in the thermowell and, valve fittings and clean up the welds, it's a lot of work. It is also and a bit of money for the materials, fittings and accessories. You also need legs, a lid with a seal, clamps and hole for an airlock. Sounds like a good project though. If you decide to make it, I'd like to hear how it turns out. :mug:

Sounds good. One could say that I have more time than money... The welds will be fine to keep clean with a little cleanup and such.

I have some homework to do but I like the brewhemoth top opening. I plan to glycol chill my fermenter through a immersion coil their opening pairs well with that. A CIP ball could also be mounted in another top piece to help make cleanup a snap.

If you have the equipment and skill to sanitary tig weld stainless then I say go for it.

From what I've been able to gather the sanitary weld is what will be most important, especially in the setting of a conical - BK welds, maybe not so much.

I'm just going to buy a brehemoth. If I wanted to build 10-20 of them then I could do it for ~$250/each for 27 gallon Conicals. But really do not have a need to ferment 250 gallons at a time. It was some interesting research though.
