I have existing drain pipe in my basement brew area. It was going to be for a shower. But now I like to Brew Room Drain. There is an existing square concrete cut out, about 7" square. P-trap already installed. I wanted to put a 4" or 5" square drain perhaps with strainer. Anyone done anything like this?

i hope you get some feedback on this thread, not trying to steal it but i'd like to hear back on this too. i have a similar situation except i need to cut mine out. i have a floor drain on the opposite end of my basement that must have been added after the house was built because the concrete clearly shows where the pipe is that runs to that drain. i want to cut a section out and put a drain on the brewery side of my basement.

As long as they also installed a vent pipe, the only issue I could see arising is the size of the pipe. Most floor drains are on a 3 or 4 inch drain pipe. A shower pipe will only be 1-1/2”, maybe 2”. Just make sure you put a grate or screen on it to prevent unwanted stuff from going down and unwanted things from coming up.

I installed this drain in my brew room: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074SG3ZFZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I really like the rectangular shape vs. a round or square drain - it's a lot easier to squeegee water into it.

Cutting the concrete wasn't too bad; used a diamond tipped concrete blade for my circular saw. Wasn't too expensive at Harbor Frieght: https://www.harborfreight.com/7-in-segmented-dry-cut-diamond-blade-for-masonry-68883.html Kept is wet with a water sprayer. Used this for grinding the edges smooth: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073CRH9GN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Pictures are in my build thread in my signature.
