What is the best hole drill size for getting a shank through a freezer collar?

I searched around and I thought 7/8 was the best size. After getting a 7/8 whole saw and measuring it, it seems to be the same size or maybe bit smaller than the shank.

Should I just get a 1" hole saw?

Also, what's a good minimum distance between faucets?

Thanks for your help

I don't know about minimum distance but when I bought my taps Midwest said 1 inch after looking at the taps I tried a 1 inch hole and it was way too big so I went with a 7/8 and it worked perfect so go with a 7/8 and use a file to fine tune

3.5 inches to center if you want oversized tap handles. i did 3 inches and i have to tilt my handles sometimes to make em fit.

This is what I use. It's 7/8 and works perfect. Mine are 3" on center and it can get tight if you want the larger taps that were mentioned so +1 on 3 1/2" if you want to do that.

Perfect... thanks for the help!!

I hope to get this finished up this weekend.

7/8" hole saw was perfect! The shanks fit like a glove without filing. Also 3 1/2" spacing worked out really well.

I pretty much finished this over the weekend, it turned out great!

Thanks for your help!
