Hi Everyone,

I am a newbie brewing beer I have brew my first beer with a simple starter kit from http://www.brewbarrel.com/home/ but I have been thinking about brewing for a while so I decided to give it a try.

My goal is to learn how to make my own beer and start sharing it and enjoying with friends.

Beer and love,
Guillermo

OH, I was using German. I thought everyone over in Europe speaks all the languages!

Don't you think people in Europe (and anywhere else in the world) like or prefer to be greeted in their own language, just like we do?

I'd say when in doubt, it's safer to greet someone in your own language.

Historically there was a necessity and many people in Europe can speak or understand one or more foreign language in addition to their own, at least at a basic level. Only very few master one or more of them. However, the majority doesn't know more than a few words outside their native language, similar to the average American's knowledge of say, Spanish.

Now since the uprise of the internet, more people of all languages have become better versed in English, which does help to communicate across borders. Much of English computer and internet terminology and jargon has been integrated into their languages, as if it were their own. That can have some shocking effects linguistically. While purists vie heavily against that habit, and some countries are more successful in that, it's mostly in vain.

Language is for the people by the people.

I had that inkling or you would have been named "Willem" or "Wim."

Agreed! All of us on HBT have something really great in common, regardless where we come from or language we speak at home. :mug:

How true! Really like the idea of beer being the universal language. Had a cool experience with this last year when we visited France and Belgium. My dad and I went out to grab a beer one night right after we after we arrived in this small town in France. The bartender had one patron that night and he barely spoke English but we could all agree on our love of beer! It was really a cool experience. Welcome to the community!
