I have a hoff stevens keg and I need to plug the side bung hole. I cut some raw cedar bungs for it today but they smell really strong of cedar. I want to try them in the boil kettle I'm making but i think they will impart some strong cedar flavor. Anyone ever use cedar? tHey sell wood dowels made from poplar at lowes but I'm not sure about the chemicals that could leach. If anyone has experience please let me know. If not I will be trying the cedar bung in a couple weeks and see if it will give me some extra essence. I will boil water first just too try to remove any oils.

Thanks for the advise. I will try this cedar one, but will order a hardwood one for the future.
