Ive often thought the same thing. As simple as It is, I cant understand why anyone would brew with extract either. A 2$ paint strainer is the only difference in equipment.

I was a staunch extract brewer when I started out. Didn't want to invest the time and money in getting set up with AG brewing and I felt my extract beers were pretty damn good on their own. The expense seemed more for sure, but it was still cheaper than buying craft beers overall.

Then I discovered BIAB and that was a game changer for me. Like you said jason, the only difference is getting a bag. I use one I get from my LHBS and they're about $10, but still, it is worth it. The money saved in brewing with grains vs. extract is amazing and the quality of beers is sooo much better! I couldn't believe how much better AG beers are compared to what thought were good extract brews!

I got a friend of mine into homebrewing and told him not to even bother starting with extract kits and got him straight into BIAB.
