and........... go.

My personal thoughts are to say the guy is full of ****. Being asked 5 times? I don't want to believe it, then again there are some real "Winners" in the beer world these days.....

very interesting... I know John Holl personally. He is a good guy that has really spent time learning about the beer industry.

the reason I find it interesting is that the experience is what you make it... this article might have described more of what I could see people saying before the tasting room... now my experience is sitting down and enjoying a beer and cheese plate or sitting outside with food and beer and talking to people... I really do get to relax at HF now no matter how busy it is.

perhaps the guys asking for Damon set the tone? maybe I've learned to ignore that?

I found it funny that he included the following quote and picture into the same article.

"In this column I’ve been harping about how we need to unplug, to enjoy the moments to focus on what’s important."

Storm the bar. Try to get side project bottles. Fail at getting side project bottles. Drink Abner instead.
Yep, I was lucky enough to get a Ble. It was seriously like the NYMEX trading floor. They did have some nice Jacky Os too and once the SP bottles were sold it was pretty calm.

Looks like a "selfie with their glasses" to me. In more ways than one.

There is definitely a contingent of turrrible people that are in the 'scene' these days.
People that make you question your own love of the hobby as they move from location to location doing their best to suck the life out and maximize profit$$.

It isn't unique to HF and frankly, HF does the best job of anyone I'm aware of at putting the shitlawdz out to pasture.

I've definitely change the way I drink and have come back full circle... I still look for the quality which is why I'll always visit HF as much as I can... but I'm more interested in the pale ales and the "shelf" saisons...

I used to think it was an old money/new money divide as far as things people liked and/or criticized... it was easy to say the older beer crowd didn't want to lineup for releases or drive 6 hours for a brewery... but it's evident that there is some old money that does that as well... I seem to think of myself more as old money... but my level of interest and lifestyle do allow me to drive far away... while I have stopped trading almost completely, I did go that far and still appreciate parts of that... I think certain parts of the beer community don't quite care for any of it...

I agree there are people who really don't seem to enjoy beer as much as they do the game/hobby aspect of it and that can really be off-putting... but it shouldn't change the way you enjoy a great brewery. I honestly cannot wait to talk with John Holl about this

Os

There good people in every hobby/game but unfortunately there are bad seeds that give all negative vibes and bad impressions. You just gotta try to see there true colors as soon has possible and remember it's easier to just avoid such individuals all together

My previous visit till I met a cool dude from nj shared beer with him
Split some really awesome beer with my wife had a great time in a great atmosphere
Also saw a guy offer two of his wol to guy inline cus he didn't want but there was no hassle from anyone about trying to buy beer
Hell I talked to a nice couple outside and surely could of asked to go inside and buy 2 more Damon because they stated they weren't intersted but I'm not greedy and don't need more let others have opportunity to buy

Yeah I feel like my experience at HF has been really different than what he describes there, and much more similar to how he describes Harpoon. Maybe it's different on days where there's some hot limited bottle, but on the day I was there (in November after the new tasting room space was up and running) it was busy but the atmosphere was pretty relaxed. People sitting down and hanging out with their beers or going outside, no one on edge or complaining about the wait, etc. We grabbed a cheese plate and split a bottle, and sat down next to some strangers who we ended up talking with for quite a while. Shared some cheese and beers with them, shared stories about visiting, and so on.

I think you're right that the experience is what you make of it. But it doesn't shock me either that there'd be a few people scrounging for extra bottles of Damon in the parking lot.

This. The Art release was shitlord heaven.

Other people's actions can certainly have an affect on my enjoyment of anything. I realize I shouldn't let other people affect me, but I do. I'd much rather go to (insert local not hyped brewery here) and hear people talking about life over standing in line at the Alchemist, Tree House or whatever else is SHRN and hearing people discuss trade values, aftermarket values, rarity, etc...

HF is a much, much more enjoyable place since the tasting room opened and they have done a great job of handling large crowds.

Last time I went to Tree House, a few guys in line ahead me were talking about how they were so over the whole trading scene and how they plan on drinking just the stuff they can get locally from now on. Not 5 minutes later one of them started lamenting that Bright was one of the cans available that day and complaining that no one will offer him good stuff for it.

Yeah as long as your whole family has matching credit cards and Ids. You can not pay with one card.

I hope you fought him. I know I would have.

Speaking of handling business...

It's Vermont Brewers Festival Weekend!

• Our retail shop and tasting rooms are open normal hours Friday and Saturday. Due to expected high traffic this weekend, and in an effort to expedite growler and retail bottle sales, our onsite draft pours (i.e. drinking an 8.5 oz. serving from a glass/cup at the brewery) for Friday and Saturday will be Edward, Dorothy, Mary and Karma Emulsion (all draft beers available for growler fills, except Dorothy; see www.hillfarmstead.com for updated draft list and bottle list)

• We'll be pouring all four sessions during the festival in Burlington in tent #7, right on the water.

--Two events--

Friday

• Juniper Bar & Restaurant at Hotel Vermont will host a huge tap event in the afternoon and all evening.

• Hen of the Wood - Burlington will host a shared tap event with Hill Farmstead and our dear friends from Micro-brasserie Le Trou du diable who have sent some serious treats!

• Saturday

Full tap event and party at Hen of the Wood - Burlington

All weekend, there will be lots of Hill Farmstead on tap around the city, as well as in Waterbury, Montpelier and more.

Check with the venues for times/details. Have a great and safe weekend!

That HF and Hen of the Wood combo is boner-inducing for sure. Couldn't get a reservation but definitely gonna try to get a spot the bar.

Anyone that might be able to assist my girl and I with a DD to/from Waterbury for Fofa? I saw the chartered bus write up and it sounds like a solid option, riding with talkbeer homies just seems more fun if anyone has room.

well there should be a lot of TB people on the charter FYI

It's over half full with all TB folks. Should name tags with user names happen?

If anyone winds up with an extra single ticket holler at me. Trying to hook up a friend who'd really like to go.
