am i the only one that is not as keen on the prospect of gin clara?
i mean, it's hf, so willbringmules, but still.
i have all the confidence in them making a beautiful beer out of this marriage, but i can't help but wrap my mind's palate around the potential heat of it.

the month digit on some of my Brother Soigne bottles are rubbed off.

the readable portion is x/20/2015 where "x" is either a 3, 6 or 8 (only the bottom curved portion of the number is visible... assuming 6 or 8)

any answers?

Shaun and Ryan made this beer specifically to trade, not to drink, me thinks.

I always am curious what a barrel will bring to a beer... especially a beer that you already enjoy... the idea of Gin and Clara sounds great in my head but I can imagine how it can wrong.

I think the possibilities of what it could be have me really wanting to try it though... obvious homer talk here but Clara, Barr Hill, and Shaun Hill... I'd bank on it being done properly.

the gin is dope as f, and clara is an unsung hero of their line, so i am just fearful that this will be a difficult beer to stomach and one of those examples of the sum being inferior to its parts--e.g. ba everett.

it goes without saying, but i'll mention it anyway, but the factor of their punctiliousness does gives me some relief with this release.

complete homer here, too, obvi.

could say the same about a beer with sour patch kids? HF going gimmicky sounds weird.

so specifically it's barr hill gin, made by caledonia spirits

I guess, HF website just says Caledonia, there's barr hill and bar hill tom cat...Nate mentioned Tom Cat. I don't know how to make Gin. Is Barr Hill regular gin never barreled? Safe to just assume it's all Tom Cat barrels?
Just trying to wrap my head around the flavor because the two Barr Hill gins I've had taste really different.

correct. Barr Hill is not barrel aged. Tom Cat is Barr Hill in new charred oak, hence the color and flavor differences. that's the only thing that gives me pause here and is preventing me from throwing my entire cellar up as ISO this - the oak is gonna be pretty not-neutral still. i imagine the herbal stuff and a little woodiness will work amazing with clara, but the more whiskey-like notes from the pretty new oak seems odd for a grisette barrel treatment.

Know when they were purchased? The bottles I bought in July are dated 5/28/15.

Zenith Clara status.

I've yet to have a Gin Barrel aged beer I've truly enjoyed yet. I also like gin, so that's odd to me. Sum is not equal to the pats IMO.

Here are two pours from the same bottle of Florence (11/2014 edition), one the first or second pour out of the bottle and one after it was roughly 1/2-2/3 empty:

Gotta love the effect of cold-crashing I guess! Oh and this is drinking very nicely, although I've had some better bottles out of the same batch.

that 10/2014 Anna is drinking reallly good right now, too!

good to know.. time to crack one! I see 9/2014 on the spreadsheet so maybe it's just a typo or something. Hope to get back up to HF on or around Christmas.. Last Christmas eve was a nice time to be there, hope to get to do it again this year

Out of curiosity, is the current batch of Soigne for sale still the 5/28/2015 one, or is it new? And if the latter, any pictures and/or comments on the flavor? That 5/28 batch was probably my favorite one of all I've had with the big blood orange kick, and it looked beautiful.

per tehzachatak there's a 8/20/2015 bottling (which I have some of, just couldn't quite make out the "8" in the date stamp).
5/28/2015 batch is good but the 4/16/2015 batch... WOAH NELLY! (my fav Bro Soigne by far - not even close)

Ugh great, looks like I'm going to head down the batch-chasing rabbit hole.

Anybody know if cd13 is still available ? I would consider trading Leaves of grass or morals for Mure Tilquin. I will be there tomorrow towards end of day (4pmish).
