ha.. I don't get it.. even some locals.. I'm like, why are you wasting your time and money?
so much so that a friend bought a bottle of Rock Art to a share just to bust my balls...
I might be the only person who legitimately likes some rock art beer (mostly their BA stuff). But even then I'm not sacrificing HF time to get there. I'm sure they lost a TON of business with rte 100 being rerouted as well.

some people prefer a $10/6pk to a $10/750mL. the NEK isn't exactly affluent.

you could alternatively show up after they open and have no line :)

waiting in line is lol

Buddy went to get pizza after some show at the Farmers Museum and they still had cases left Saturday, albeit 3 but there was some left. Got ma fix and that's all I care about.

but we're talking "beer people"... no need to worry about how affluent people are when it comes to "beer people"... because the ones I'm talking about travel around... so clearly gas money is not the concern.

proximity is the only argument I get... but maybe because it's such a far trip and HF beers don't show up on tap around me... I've pretty much stopped going to most other releases in the are because of the quality difference... but I guess that's just my opinion

fingers crossed for some maple syrup to last to next Thursday...
I think it lasted a long time last release. Limits were 1 per household though. Either way the wife already said we are maxing out on it. Apparently, these will make excellent Christmas gifts. We shall see how many we have left come October. If any of you need me, I will be in the hospital having my foot amputated. Because, diabetes.

If you're a Vermont local I can completely understand not wanting to bother with the trip to HF and just grab Sip, Heady, or Fiddlehead cans off the shelf for your weekly drinking. Or heck, even just a sixer of a national brand at the grocery store.

If you're driving to Vermont from several states away, on the other hand...

Even 'beer people' can have financial constraints.

According to mint, I spent $2500 there in the last year (remind me to start paying in cash again so I don't have to quantify this ever again). Add another $500 for gas. That's a car payment for many people.

I haven't been out in 3 months and it isn't like I've quit drinking beer.
I simply realized buying $200+ worth of HF every month when I could get something close for 1/3rd the cost was pretty silly. Doesn't mean I don't think HF is still the best.

Fiddlehead, Alchemist, Zero Gravity and the slew of other distro'd VT beers are cheaper per ounce, available 5 minutes away and 'good enough' if I want something at home. They have all gotten better because of what HF brought to the local scene. And HF is on tap locally if a fix is required.

this....really hoping I can someday add HF saisons to 'things I can grab off the shelf"

well yeah, you clearly are locked into the proximity thing I mentioned...

"In February of 2015, we received pure Vermont maple syrup from our friends at Peck Family Farm in East Montpelier, Vt. We filled bourbon barrels from our favorite distilleries with various grades of syrup. The syrup was aged for more than three months and then packaged in resealable 750ml flip-top bottles."

Last syrup release announcement they had 2 grades: amber and fancy. No distinction this time yet they made a point to say various grades. Think it's blended? or could there be distinctions in the bottle grades?
Since it's $40/bottle I'm guessing grade will be amber, which is what amber cost last release.

Getting really psyched for the FoFA trip now that it's getting so close and plans are coming together. Staying at the Old Stagecoach with vonnegut21 and some others, can't wait to chow down on dat breakfast! The stumbling distance doesn't hurt either.

Current plan is to drive up from South Carolina with my friend Matt on Thursday morning, stop in Philly at Tired Hands for some food and beer, then keep driving until we are at least past the NYC metro area (maybe stop in Hartford or something like that). Hit HF at opening on Friday for bottles and fills, then probably Parker Pie for lunch. Plans subject to change of course.

Syrup Coooovvveeeeee
Amber is better than fancy anyways. ZFG.

I was curious about that myself.... I liked both but in different ways...

the fancy, I literally poured over ice and enjoyed it... even moreso after we spiked it with some bourbon

the amber was better for pancakes

Tried the new dry hopped Arthur yesterday..

Agreed. Was going to actually post about this today. Did not like it nearly as much as oaked Arthur. The stainless definitely had a bigger effect on the beer than the dry-hopping. Don't get me wrong, still a tremendous saison, but missing the HF magic.

For all you know, plenty of Arthur you've had in the past has been stainless. Not all are fouder

Was able to get my wife's parents to watch our kids for approximately 42 hours. We'll be heading from Rochester to Burlington Friday evening, up to HF Saturday morning, and then back to Waterbury/Burlington Saturday evening before the return trip on Sunday. No growlers on Saturday correct?

correct...

I was under the impression that all of the saisons see oak (foudre/puncheon) for some period unless otherwise noted. If that's wrong, that's fine and I'm happy to be corrected. The beer was still noticeably different than other Arthurs I've had and bitterness/hop flavor was not the primary difference.
