hoping for friday myself! struck out with zwanze tix, but ill probably still head up saturday to grab a few more growlers

I don't know how under wraps the Hill cult keeps thing, but does anyone know if something else might drop before Saturday? My butt hurts too much from trading for VT brews and I need to get as much of that deservedly sanctimonious sugar juice as possible.

Not likely. Especially with an announced new release like Dorothy plus Convivial still available.

hill farmstead's been pretty good about updating their site at the beginning of the week on what will exactly be on the shelves. I only make a few trips up a year but I've found it to be pretty damn accurate.

I don't know if I should feel bad about this or not, but I was actually the one who told Kerrie about the 2nd group drinking. I, like much of you, am cool with Kerrie and Phil. I also know the rules there.

There were 4 or 5 burly, quasi metal looking dudes just openly crushing cans of Mastermind while inside the doors of the brewery. They also were just placing the non-drank cans (still in the 4 pack holder) on the barrels so they didn't have to hold them. I mean they were blatantly drinking out of the cans and holding them out in the open for all to see.

I kinda feel like a dick for ratting the dudes out, but Kerrie thank me profusely and said if someone from the liquor commission was they, they could have shut them down completely for a month(s).

Nah...good call on your part. No one wants to see them get into any trouble because someone can't wait to put a few beers down.

Can't say I've never participated, but I generally find the bottle sharing in line kinda obnoxious even when it's allowed. There's a compulsiveness to this hobby that manifests itself in ways that definitely turn me off, this being one of them. I'm surprised as many breweries are cool with it, as I've seen people pretty lit before they even entered an event. If nothing else, have the good sense to ask before you crack something. /rant

HF is getting more tourist types and the sign will help, sadly i see more of the occurrences being mentioned happening. When there a few weeks back, it appeared the majority had little to no clue how things work/ed.

HF twitter: packaging James and Abner.

Packaging?

Who wants to gopickitupformebro ? ;)

do Limoncelo // Lemon Cello count as IPAs?

Special exception there.

Pale ales are not packaged in anything but kegs / growlers. Only exception is pale ales like Edward that spend 2 years in oak with microflora and become E. not really a pale ale anymore, though.

Limoncello B1 was brewed @ Siren in the UK and I think less than 20 kegs made it stateside, some insanely small number. I had it on tap at 2 bars in Vermont and Mikkeller Bar in SF and it all came to USA via Shelton.

Limoncello B2 was a ton of bottles, also through Shelton. A collab still with Mikkeller and Hill Farmstead but I'm certain those brewers didn't physically all brew together that day but all had a part in designing the beer.

B2 bottled version was available nationwide at many fine establishments that carry Shelton beer, not just HFS.

It's a Siren beer - http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/siren--mikkeller--hill-farmstead-limoncello-ipa/212315/111902/

There's been other Limoncello batches. It was a grassroots/mikkellar collab for the EU summer ratebeer gathering in 2010 or 11 and the Siren guy was brewing on Fanø island at the time.

Thanks. I just know that only 2 have come stateside from Siren.

looks like we're both right in different ways

Mikkeller Grassroots Limoncello @ RBSG 2010 http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/grassroots-mikkeller-limoncello-ipa/123753/

Mikkeller HFS Siren Limoncello first appeared May 2013 @ CBC - http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/siren--mikkeller--hill-farmstead-limoncello-ipa/212315/

So i'm guessing for the most recently brewed, there was a B1 for CBC then a B2 last fall and then B3 was mostly bottled.

I'd have to ask Ryan though and no thanks because he publicly calls me a ******** despite us never meeting or talking. I tried to say hello to him @ this year's CBC but he wasn't there this time.

I was being facetious ;)

What was the difference between Jim and Jimmy?
If memory serves, Jim was barrel aged James (Pinot Noir barrel, 7.5%). Jimmy was barrel aged SS#2 (imperial James, 10%). Had both side by side a few weeks ago and they're doing better than I would have expected (mostly Jimmy). Nice caramel thing going on now...

What was the difference between Jim and Jimmy?

Jim: 7.5% ABV released in 2011???

Jim (1954-1998) is the name by which our Uncle was best known; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his four siblings. In his honor, we barrel aged our Black Ale (James) in a French Oak Pinot Noir barrel for 4 months and dry hopped the beer with Simcoe. Naturally carbonated and hand bottled, this is one of only 300 bottles. 7.5% ALC/VOL 16.8º P Ingredients: Pale and Caramel Malt; Roasted Barley; Centennial, Columbus hops, and Simcoe hops; Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

Jimmy: 10% ABV released July 2012

900 Bottles. Imperial Black IPA (Society and Solitude #2) aged in French oak wine barrels (Port, right?) for four months.

I love S&S 2 and Jimmy just made that beer out of this world. Also remember when 900 bottle releases from Hill Farmstead were limit 4 per person? It' would be 1 per person now, right?

(From July 2012)

Civil Disobedience #4 (750ml)
Blended Oak Aged Black Saison - limit 4, $15 each
● Ann (750ml)
White Wine Barrel Honey Saison w/ Microflora - limit 1, $20 each
● Jimmy (500ml)
Wine Barrel Aged Imperial Black IPA (i.e. Society #2 in oak) - limit 4, $15 each

Wow, did you hold on to Jim or find someone with a bottle? I don't think I've tried it since late 2010 after the Harvest fest release.

My bottles have been gone for years. A friend has had bottles from that release in his cellar since purchase and shared them (also shared all 3 BA F&T from that release which again were doing better than I would have expected).

Another round of Nordic Saison is on the way....

Just opened one last night followed by 05/14 Arthur and latest Convivial. Nordic is really singing w/ 3 months in the bottle. Fantasticly tart !

At my tasting on Friday or Thursday I'm going to do a mini Arthur vertical with everyone. Curious to see how 1 year old arthur tastes in the bottle.
