Oh thank god

Just wish this had been ready for the hottest days of the summer, but Shaun is just probably keeping up with seasonal creep from global warming. Lol.

Also... anybody have info about this? Looks like that's an "In: Nordic (6/6/14)" and "Out: Nordic (7/14/14)." Not really sure what spirits from Caledonia have been barrel aged, other than the Tom Cat gin (which is unbelievable).

I am fairly certain that the Tom Cat is the only thing they've ever released publicly, at least, that's gone in barrels. And yes - it is freakin' unbelievable. So we have gin barrel aged Nordic Saison, now? Yes, please.

EDIT: Nope, forgot, they were just selling the like "preview runs" of their first whiskey a month or two ago. So it could be that, too, although gin barrel seems more likely for Nordic Saison.

EDIT2: Here you go:

They were selling like 200 mL bottles for like 30 bucks or something which was too rich for my blood, but my friend who tasted it said it was really excellent.

I'm thinking it was most likely used as a neutral puncheon, but one can dream!

My HFS buddy that goes with me every time we go up now is great because we alternate who's car is driven (saving me some miles & gas money) is applying logic to our beer-habits and I won't stand for it.

Question from last night, "Is Shaun ever going to slow down and take a vacation? We can't keep going up every single week. This is getting ridiculous."

Agreed. The past 3 months has been stupid with how many beers are coming out. Late April through like September, if you don't go up at minimum every 2 weeks, you're going to miss out. I like the drive but I guess most non-locals have stopped worrying about trying every beer put out. It's just too many to keep up with.

---
Another epiphany though is I tried to convince my friend to max out saisons when we went up. She'd just get 3-5 bottles. Almost every week she says, "I really should have bought a case" It's true though. The last batches of saisons have been really well done. I find we're drinking a saison every 3-4 days. And at $10 per 750ML, it's a damn good deal. They're about the same price as every ****** out of code bomber at my local beer store.

No-Limit Arthur (if that ever happens) will be very dangerous. The increased bottle limits & HFS is making it much easier to not renew my Bruery or Crooked Stave memberships next year. Belgium in a Box + Heady + Hill Farmstead is pretty much all I need.

In other news, going to go up next week and hoping Peleg, Nordic and Bliss survive that long. Nordic & Bliss will be new rates for me and I'd love to get more Peleg. Great beer!

As an update to this - got a very nice email from Shaun letting me know that it was indeed completely random, and was nothing but my bad luck that kept me from getting tickets!

As 'random' as the selection process for CW.

I think the way his releases are now is smart... it gets people excited to go every week... as opposed to one big release here and there.... the logistics of having everyone lineup the same day and then have slow days for a couple of weeks makes no sense other than saving some out of towners trips... but if you're making a long trip and miss on a big release, then you're bummed... as opposed to now, if you miss something, you know you can go the following week and still get a good new release

sounds like a lot of rambling but I enjoy how it is... and I also am loving these case, 2x case and unlimited releases... allows me to drink great HF beer all the time without worrying that I'm low on bottles and have to ration all the time.

I can have an Anna with dinner and not feel bad because I didn't save the bottle to open with a friend

pfft, and you live about 90 minutes away? I live 12ish hours away and will be making my 3rd trip since late March in Sept...

No-Limit Arthur (if that ever happens) will be very dangerous.

no ****, I'm down to just over a case of Arthur left from my May trip...

if I was only 7ish hours away I'd be on your frequency as well... luckily I have a great friend up there who stocks up for me in-between my trips

yeah... that is definitely a great situation.

A blog wrote about how Hill Farmstead is mean and they need to work on advertising. Shaun wrote that they showed up on Tuesday when they weren't even open, so I can imagine if there was any "bad service" it probably had something to do with that.

http://www.stixandstonezblog.com/#!Hill-Farmstead

It reads like a bad Yelp review.

Speaking of yelp, non sequitur time:
I went to Russian River two weekends ago and a friend who came with me invited another friend from Santa Rosa, who in turn brought her boyfriend (without telling us), and the boyfriend invited ANOTHER couple, also without telling us. At Russian River, you can't just do this and expect seating. The new couple who showed up got talked to by the server that it was not going to be possible to seat them, and they threw a huge fit and threatened to write a Yelp review about how RR is "racist" because they are Iranian. They said "Whatever, Lagunitas is waaay better anyway!"

Meanwhile I was giggling and enjoying some Compunction.

LOL wow what a joke! That reads like a parody piece or something.

I have to say, a lot could be done in terms of service and advertisement here. The people are not very friendly or accommodating and there are countless things they could do to improve business and make it into a much more welcoming place.

Hahaha on a day they aren't even open to the public and you only got in due to knowing some locals no less.

The problem is they are so popular and sought out that they really don't have to do anything to make it better. Shaun Hill is the owner and it seems as if all of the newfound visitors are more of a nuissance than a blessing. Yet, regardless of the occasional unfriendliness, Hill Farmstead has incredible beer and is an awesome little beer heaven tucked away in the woods of Vermont- definitely worth a visit."

Dat last paragraph.

That last paragraph reads like a buddy who complains about a date he went on for 15 minutes just to finish with, but we ****** so it all worked out and I'm seeing her again next week.

Man, mocking a customer on Twitter seems a lot worse for a business than a random blog that mentions "occasional unfriendliness" in an otherwise very positive post...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
