heading over tomorrow, what's the 411 on lines recently for a wednesday? Have my wife with me to help on the fills of growlers, but have so many growlers we'll need two trips through line if they stick to just 3 a person, do they ever deviate from that policy?

was thinking going early, then leaving for parker pie for lunch then going back afterwards.. have 12 750 ml, 2 2L swing tops and 2 64 oz screw tops.. what do you guys think is best plan of action to get all that filled with 2 people?

thanks for the help.. looks like susan replaced double citra? also for the samples can you get these in line possibly?

Oregon Brook campground is great.
Its about 10 minutes from HF, and you have to pass it to get to HF anyways.

I guess the owner recently died, he was really nice.

It was super cheap, well maintained, has a heated/ lighted bathroom.

If your going to camp, that should be your first choice.

Alright fellas, starting to nail down the final details for our trip up at the end of July. We'd like to find a place to camp for a couple nights near HF in the middle of the week. I noticed HF has some suggestions on their site. Any suggestions? Pros/cons? Just need a site with a fire ring and bathrooms/showers...elec is not a big priority.
We'd like to do some hiking as well, so any suggestions for trails would be awesome!

Also, I'm guessing Sarrasin and Anna most likely won't last till July 23-24. If anyone local would like to do a swap for Midwest goodies, I'd love to start a conversation. Not really looking for anything super limited from HF, basically bottles that were recently available (Sarrasin, Anna, Arthur, Bro. Soigne, etc.). I'd be more than willing to haul cases (up to four) of Zombie Dust, other Chicago locals, as many New Glarus fruit bottles you want.
The only caveat, would be that I can't drive around too much to meet up since this road trip is mainly for my wife's birthday. We'll be in Portland at the beginning of the trip, then around HF and Waterbury at the end. Hit me up if anyone would like to discuss. I'll post to the ISO:FT a little later too.

Thanks in advance!

If you get there an hour early, you'll probably be out the door by 1pm. To fill all your growlers, it would take you and your wife 3 trips through the line each. It's summer, it's Hill Farmstead, there's going to be a line, and they won't fill more than three growlers for you at a time. Say you're back from Parker Pie by 2:30, you'll be there until closing to go through twice more. Once more wouldn't be bad probably. You can never really tell...sometimes the line is huge, sometimes it's pretty quick later in the day.

Yes, tastings are while you're in line.

Shaun told me that he's been bottling the most recent saisons with another yeast...I asked him after E. and Arthur had come out. That said, I had been under the impression that this disqualified using dregs for homebrewing, but I've since learned that they're still viable. Will be tossing a variety of HF dregs into a saison I've been meaning to brew.

That's what I've heard as well - he made some recent changes with the bottling yeast to prevent people from stealing his dregs. Unfortunately this has a side effect of his beers not changing over time as much as they used to.

What's funny is it's well known that Shaun stole his yeast from another brewery at some point...

Haven't heard anything about the bottling yeast being a means of preventing people from using dregs. I guess it would only be totally effective if he used a killer strain.

Thanks. I sort of figured all you replied with was the case. Anywhere closer to HF then Parker pie? Again, I figured not.

WTF? Yeah ******* right. If this is true, it adds to his douchiness. if it's not true, I wish people would stop spreading false rumors. Lose-lose.

Yeah, seems like a stretch. I've actually found Shaun to be quite helpful to me as a homebrewer. He's always responded to my emails, given me some clues about grain bills and whatnot, and didn't seem to mind when I asked him about bottle dregs.

Parker Pie is like 20 minutes. Well worth it. Go get you a few glasses of HF on tap and have an excellent lunch, would be a shame to miss it. Honestly, getting back to HF later would probably mean a quicker trip through the line as the earlier crowd filters out. Not sure how long you're staying in the area, but it would also be well worth your time to eat dinner at Pro Pig in Waterbury. It's more like an hour, and no lunch on M-Th.

Honestly, walking out of there with 16 growlers with only one other person is unlikely. Those days are over.

I walked out of there with another person with over 25 Growlers..... Recently.....

As I've said, complete rumor, I just thought maybe an advance home brewer could possibly chime in.

I'm sure most/many of us have gotten extra growlers. Posting publicly about walking out the door with 25+ seems tacky, at best.

Absolutely nothing imo. The staff openly allows you to go back to the end of the line if you feel like doing so. I've been through multiple times myself when it's slow and it's not looked down upon in the least.

I agree. Ty. IDGAF. If im driving 3.5 hours one way i'm getting as much as I can....... Or as much as my wallet can allow with crying uncle.

The implication, to me at least, was that they were deviating and letting him grab tons of extras on one trip through. If that's what he's saying, talking about it publicly is tacky.

If you just went back through the line tons of times that's a totally different thing and completely whatever. My apologies if you meant the latter.

No worries. It was a combination of getting my 3 fills when it was busy and getting back in line couple times til the line went down and i was one of the only people there. I've also went and spent 4 hours there and left with 12 Growlers all depends on the day and busy level

All good, sorry dude. 25 growlers is effing bonkers by the way.

Ya i'll be the first to admit its insane...between me and my copilot we dropped over $1000 my last trip...

Whats even crazier is they had MC1-4 in a tote for $250 and it sat there... From 12 til when I left at 230.... I was very surprised no one picked it up. I've had MC 1 3 and 4 so I had no desire to grab it otherwise I probably would have.

Thanks guys. Yeah I don't expect anything but good beer and good times. The more I can walk away with the better.

I'm staying in Canada about an hour out of HF, have family stuff so sadly no pro pig etc. It's a day trip but no qualms with being at HF basically all day. It's the reason for my trip south of the boarder then back up north then back home on Sunday. Sadly they are closed Sunday otherwise I'd stop then too!

As soon as Aaron is released who's down for a Wednesday Cannonball Run? I need many seeing that it's my name and all. Oh and I happen to like english barleywines. Also bring mules. That is all.
