So excite. Gonna make me some double barrel... do you guys think a 50 50 mix will be good?

It will require me to taste it. Just go ahead and forward me a bottle of each and we can skype while trying different blend ratios.

Here are the glasses leading up to the black one:

Here's the black one:

i'm still on the look out for one of the original glasses that looks hand-painted with a very large HFS logo.

The globe glasses are belgian made and the rest are Libby glassware (like the festival wine glass which is not pictured)

Always looking for glasses to complete the collection.

I think that second pic of the black one is messed up. They forgot to bold the type and the last time I went there it looked like they were trying to sell them off quick at $6 a glass.

I assumed the same thing since aren't they normally $8?

Normally $8. They are currently $6. It has been assumed because these are printed in a way that is not correct. I use my black one every day, weighs, feels and looks identical to the others so I only see it as a $2 savings on the other glasses.

If there's something wrong with it, the beer that I'm drinking out of it has not tasted any different than the $8 glasses.

If you do them side by side, you'll notice the old etched ones definitely taste $2 better. No lie!!

They were $6 for the white print when I went back in September.

There was also a batch of "misprint" white ones. The "proper" glasses have a thicker (bold, possibly) font while the $6 white and black ones have a more slender font.

I didn't think the white pint glass has been sold at their shop in a while. I've bought all of my pint glasses at Winooski Beverage Warehouse. Interesting.

He's saying white print. As in, the wine glass, with white text.

And yes, the black ones that they were selling for $6 have non-bold font and are "misprints" - I personally actually like them better! I wish I had bought more.

I'm a typographer so it annoys me. When I was there, my girlfriend thought to buy them because of the discounted price but I told her not to for that exact reason.

Same with the kerning on the Lawson's logo. It looks atrocious and I wouldn't pay a dime for that on a glass.

I have to disagree on the HF glass unless there's something I'm missing, but the Lawson's logo is horrific.

It's minute details but when that HF logo is unbolded, tracking and leading has too much spacing and it doesn't visually support the heavy icon on the left. Plus it just looks weird because I've known it to be bolded. K i'm done geeking out

Anytime someone mentions kerning, I respect them more but also I get annoyed because while you are a very smart person for knowing font lingo, it's also so specific of a peeve that almost no one else really gives a crap about it.

Sort of like critiquing a restaurant for how they pour your wine. Cool but no thanks.

Also, Sean Lawson doesn't care what anyone thinks of his logo. I've come to realize that Sean is more concerned with spending time with his kids, sugaring and skiing than glassware tweaks. He's a great brewer though.

Also, I mean no disrespect. I agree with you but don't scroll past glassware just because there's a kerning issue.

I'll admit, I had to look up what kerning was. Makes sense, though.

re: the thin font HFS glasses. I kind of like it. I agree that the entire image is a lot more balanced with the bold font, but I also feel that the thin font contrasts nicely and really makes the logo to the left pop. I'm sure it's not proper by typography standards, but it's a pretty cool effect to me.

(disclaimer: never studied typography, but I do have a fancy shmancy minor degree in Studio Arts!)

I respect poster's opinion but think it's quibbling and a waste of time to point out Kerning.
LOL It's fairly obvious you think my opinion is dumb and don't respect it at all. It's like saying "No offense, but you are a ******." But it's okay to say that because you said "no offense" first.

In my line of work, I'd be fired for dismissing your so-called waste of time. So thanks for amounting part of my profession to something no one gives a crap about.

You seem pretty bent up over my opinion tho. Are you still mad that you only got one Proprietor's after a weekend of truck chasing in Chicago? Talk about wasting time...

You're mistaken I promise. I don't think your opinion is dumb but I imagined you'd feel offended by my remarks so I added the 'no offense' bit. I promise you with all my heart (seriously, we should swap cell numbers so I can talk to you on the phone) that I do truly respect anyone that references and recognizes kerning issues. In a previous life, I'd be right there with you literally leading the parade on design issues. No sarcasm, seriously.

Also, this is no defense of Hill Farmstead either. I know those glasses were remarked as having errors and thus the price was discounted. The glass, the receptacle is still identical to every other Hill Farmstead glass except the printing on it had an error thus the discount.

I have to add though that you won't lose your TalkBeer forum privileges for not pointing out kerning issues. This is not a job, it's a hobby. Just as I ignore someone on this forum that might say something uninformed about my day job. I'm not being paid to post here so I'm not going to waste time on something I just spend 10 hours of my day doing. This is considered my downtime / entertainment. If you critique Jira or NDS or ADAS or SatNav alignment issues or the speed limit display in your BMW 5 series, these are all aspects of my job. I will lose no sleep if you want to talk about elevation discrepancies in Ohio while traveling on a Class 1 motorway.

And furthermore, seriously man (are you a guy / girl, I honestly don't know) I swear that my background was foremost design, commercial design, pre-press and layout when I switched gears to IT and server design / infrastructure for medical offices and finally ended up in project management. I wholeheartedly respect your position on kerning and critiquing design **** ups. Seriously. It's just having lived for 5 years in San Francisco, I laugh a bit when I'm having a great time with a very talented but awesome friend and he takes time on his day off to shed light to me on how some logo on a bus advertisement has screwed up kerning....in real life, outside of the Internet my only thought is, "dude, we get it you know design. Can we please go back to checking out girls and drinking PBR?"

**** that chicago ****. Seriously. If we ever meet up for a beer, I'm happy to discuss that with you. The Internet is not real life by the way. it's a mirage, a fun chat room, a place where we can pretend and ******** and have fun. Most of what I've said about Chicago was ********. it was a great freaking trip with a very good friend and we had a very memorable trip. if something is posted on the Internet, including this, ignore like 90% of it. It's ********. Every one of my single digits real life friends knows not to read what I post online. I take none of this seriously. It's just a fun very long form joke. Anyone that takes it seriously as far as what I post online is wasting their time.

To be fair, his point was two sentences long and on-topic as the discussion was specifically about the fonts on glassware. If a relevant beer discussion veers into your area of expertise, why not chime in? To say no one gives a crap just because you didn't is wholly unfair. I learned something and found it interesting.
