Actually no longer necessary to show up early for limited onsite. Onsite has been killer in the last week or two, they have a new system. They put out throughout the day notecards for limited bottles instead of putting them all on a menu. So you can show up at 4 and find some great options on the notecard.
Well that is certainly refreshing! Although for anyone who makes the 7-hour drive in the hopes of returning home at a reasonable hour, I assume this means fewer options right at open. Guess I gotta convince the wife that I "need" more midweek overnight camping trips in VT.

Per FB only 50 bottles remaining for tomorrow.

Have to say I’m pretty surprised by the (insane) turnout today. I don’t remember waiting in line for the last Damon release but craft beer is crazier than ever, I suppose.

Last few Damon were on site/CW only, surprised this was a public release...

Pent up demand for a “rare” release. Sad to think what will become of some of those bottles

That would be awesome. I'll have a good time no matter what. Weekend away in beautiful Vermont with my wife. Supposed to great weather too, 60s and sunny. A Damon on-site would make my pants wet.

Annual trip to VT falls tomorrow. Not upset about missing Damon to go if it means I miss the shitstorm that HF looked like today. The on site list has been banging, looking forward to having a few with some buds. Holla if you’re around and want to touch tips have some brews

Congratulations to everyone who made the trek yesterday for a bottle of Damon. Good chance this was it's last public release ever based on the mess that occurred. I'm more than a bit surprised they're putting 50 bottles back out today for retail, instead of simply pulling them for on-site. It would seem like they're inviting another mob scene, but just earlier because people don't want to risk missing out.

So, short of making these types of releases onsite only, how could this be improved?

800+ bottles would seem like too much for a lottery system, but that might be the fairest option, and requiring winners to pick up their bottles on a specific date (like the Flora Cuvee lottery a couple years ago).

True "Silent Releases" would simply push back the crowd by 1 day. Unless there was no guarantee that the bottles would be made available in subsequent days. i.e. 10am surprise post - "Damon is available TODAY at open, 20 cases only. None will be available tomorrow". Rinse, repeat on other random days over the next few weeks / months?

This would require additional storage at HF, and would be hell for people who need to plan ahead to make a trip for their favorite limited beer. However it would allow for stuff like Damon, Clover, Ann or Art to be sold to the general public without inviting 2-3 hour lines, and would be fantastic surprises for people who had already planned a trip.

I guess the real solution is just make friends with some of you CW people, and hope for an invite to a bottle share ;)

(srs. all this lambic ain't going to drink itself)

What mess occurred? Just long lines? It wasn't much busier than the last BG&E release, but this time they snaked the line inside the ropes instead of having it go out to the street so it looked worse.

As far as I know, everyone who went to the brewery yesterday for a bottle got one. DBD day was a mess because a lot of people got shut out. This was just a busy day. HF made no guarantees about bottles lasting the week. I understand being disappointed that the bottles didn't last longer, but nobody who made the drive today got shut out and nothing happened that I know of requiring some change in the way they do these releases. The last several coffee Damons have been onsite only, so people have had plenty of chances to try at least one of them. They decided to release this one to go and it lasted a little over a day. I think that's ok.

Completely agree, I was expecting the worse, but had a pleasant time despite the 3 hour line wait. I don't think they really need to change a thing, IMO.

I'm disappointed we haven't heard any stories about them matching IDs to known resellers/rafflers and turning people away ala the Art b4 release.
