fancy has, ironically, less pronounced flavor.

b is better :)

now... whats the difference between grade A syrup and "fancy"? haha they just updated it, "fancy" is $10 more

I don't even know how to respond to that... other than, one of each please!

I drove around Northern VT today to see some friends and I gotta say mud-season is officially here. My all wheel drive was doing its job but the roads are disgusting. Be careful out there and watch out for huge frost heaves disguised as little puddles. I definitely whacked my alignment out yesterday hitting one.

ugh... think Taylor Rd will be tough to navigate next week?

Hah, same. I was actually in Greensboro visiting a friend on the lake. The roads are HORRIBLE today. Driving a Subaru, my back end started sliding out going around a corner at 20 mph. Ridiculous!!!

I only ever took Lake Rd off of 14 to Caspian once, and it was bad enough dry! I'm up in a couple weeks, can't wait to see what Shadow Lake Rd>Rocking Rock Rd. is like.

I've heard people say this before, and it always surprises me. In my opinion B is something you use for cooking and so on. I would never drizzle B on pancakes or something that I really want to highlight and enjoy the taste of the maple syrup. Fancy is very delicate and refined, and I find it to be far, far superior.

Did you look up how to use syrup on wikipedia or something?

Been drizzling B on pancakes since age 3.

My opinion, bro. I've been a maple syrup junkie my whole life as well. I know the B is stronger in taste, but the delicateness of the Fancy to me actually highlights the maple taste better, rather than overpowering it like B. I know a lot of Vermonters actually prefer B. And the nice thing is it's a lot cheaper.

As far as bourbon barrel aging the various grades - I wonder if the Amber may actually work better in this case than the Fancy.

Have they finally fixed the head gasket oil leak issue? Owned a couple of them through the 90's and once they hit 100k they always had this problem.

Nope. Ours luckily came with a warranty that covered it when it happened (bought it used at about 60k). Head gasket was covered and the timing belt/water pump was cheap (comparatively) since the place already had the engine all torn apart. Engine is running like a CHAMP now at 160k. Biggest problems are rust and the fact that driving fast on ****** dirt roads chews up the suspension.

Pfft, call me a flat-lander but Subbies are over-rated.

Gladly, you non-subaru driving flatlander!!!!!

Subarus are nice to drive in VT. They take a beating and just keep going. One of these days I'll get a GTI, though...... one of these days..

Frank - a ton of VW vehicles are getting 4-Motion (Haldex) I wouldn't be surprised to see a 4-motion Jetta / Passat in the next 2-3 years. In the Subaru price range, I'd much rather get a 5 year old Quattro enabled A3 than a newer Subaru but rust and all, old VT cars have been through Hell. a 5 year old Audi in VT has seen some ****.

So true. There really is no winning with cars in VT. I'm definitely timing my next car purchase with a vacation to FL ;)

Looks like Ephraim is on for this week. I think $12 is more than I paid last time, but I can't remember. Anything that makes it last until next Wednesday is fine by me.

Someone asked on twitter if anything new would be hitting the retail shelves this week and he only mentioned Ephraim. Anybody's guess as to when the syrup will drop.

What were the BGE stocks looking like Saturday afternoon for anyone that was up? What are we thinking with that ...Thurs? Fri? Sat even?

Going up for the first time since October this Wed. With a friend who has only been once during a 4th of july shitshow. Hoping Wednesday won't be too much of a hot mess.

EDIT: How bad is it if I want to go through the line again on a Wed? Ive only been on Fri and Sat, and its usually a GET ME OUTTA HERE! sort of scene.

If you don't want to stand in line, I'd recommend going between 2-4pm. Every day of the week I've been up recently has had a line of people waiting at 11:55. I was told that there were over 50 people waiting in line last Wednesday when they opened, and the bottles/taps were the same as the week before.

are you trying to get growler fills both times?

They don't let you get bottles twice if you go through the line twice, only growlers. The bottle limit is per day

HevvyMetalHippie I was there last Wed and it was almost just as bad as a Sat because they were short staffed. Phil was filling, his-female-counterpart-whose-name-I-still-don't-know was doing the tastings, and a new guy was also doing fills albeit more slowly

Kerrie is usually back there with Phil.. I believe Anne? is the one usually doing the tastings.
