Bought some homebrew equipment and there was a Phils Philler with it. I guess this was the original bottle filler, before they made them with plastic. Are they easier or better than the modern plastic ones?

Much better than the plastic fillers. Very little fluid displacement. Had a ten year lapse in brewing and can't find mine. Just got lucky and found one in the classifieds and grabbed it.
 
I got one of them with some used equipment. I never used it because the plastic one was working fine and I have since moved onto kegging and have a beer gun. Let us know how it works.
