Hello everyone, So I recently obtained a used 7cu ft chest freezer from a friend of mine for a steal. I really want to convert it into a 2 or 3 tap collared kegerator. I was hoping the good people of homebrew talk could help me. I've see multiple tutorials and videos on the whole process, but since I have little to no experience with electrics and all that hog-whollop. Also, I wanted to get a set list of everything I will be needing. Thanks for all your help!:mug:

As far as the electronics go on converting a freezer. All you really need is an electronic temperature control. You can go as basic, or as advanced as you'd like. If you're looking for a "plug and play", more beer offers a few different set ups. They are a little spendy, but if you aren't comfortable wiring something up they work fine.

As for a list of other things you need, check out some of the "kits" that the great vendors on this site offer. I just got a 5 tap set up, and used a certain discount code provided to HBT'ers. Good luck on the conversion!

Do you think this temp. controller would be able to do the job? Its a bit cheaper so its worth a try I suppose.

On the other note of a "kegerator kit", I'm pretty familiar with morebeer and noticed they have a faucet, shank, and drip tray upgrade. Would I be able to buy two of those and be set to go or would I have to get a CO2 distributor?

That temp controller will work just fine.

You'll need need a CO2 regulator, and everything that goes on the gas side of the system. Why the "kit" is the way to go. If you didn't want to build a collar, you could use something like this if you're using sanke (commercial) connections. http://morebeer.com/products/basic-kegerator-conversion-kit.html. But, you'd lift the door every time.

Is this the only thing I need to convert my freezer to a Keezer? no other parts or changes to the freezer? thanks

Get a temperature set up and do the rest later.

I picked up a freezer, built a temp controller with about $20 in parts, and I'm using picnic taps. I will eventually build a collar and add nice taps, but I wanted to think it through and not rush the build.

I am in the same boat as popgunandy. Working on plans for a keezer collar. If you are not great with electronics than Inkbird has a wonderful controller through Amazon: Inkbird Itc-308 Digital Temperature Controller Outlet Thermostat, 2-stage, 1000w, w/ Sensor. It is just a plug and play controller.

Then start acquiring parts for your keezer collar along with all the faucets and faucet parts. I am going all stainless steal, this way I will not need to change it out down the road.
