Have a coworker that used to brew, hasn't for a while due to divorce, smaller space, etc. He said I can use some of his gear until he gets back into brewing, I said sure thing!
Today he gave be a Boots Pressure Barrel. Best I can tell its english/european and not made any more (mold stamp in plastic indicates 1986). I believe it is used for carbonating, much as a keg. I think you can prime and wait or force carb with CO2 cartridges.
Anyone here have advice on whether this is usable, instructions, things to check/repair/replace?
The lid gasket is cruddy and may need replacing, but cleaning may suffice. The whole thing needs a scrub (mouse droppings were included in the package) and some sort of pressure check. Could I do that with water and a CO2 cartridge?
I just don't know but would love if I could start 'kegging' with this. Unfortunately it is a bit too big for my fermentation chamber (which I can get down to 35-40 if need be), but I may be able to work things out.
Pics are attached and replies very welcome.
