Gang,

I just got a "MoreBeer" Maple Bacon Brown Ale LME kit and it didn't come with any YEAST!! WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT!!??? I'd think they wanna tell a guy if you buy a kit you aren't actually everything you NEED to make beer. I digress.

What yeast strain do I use for this thing and should it be wet or dry?? Mind you I'm gonna have to order it because I'm an hour and a half from a brew store and can't get down there before then. HELP!

S 04 dry yeast should do it. Its an english ale yeast so should go well with marris otter and east kent Goldings. Providing i was looking at the same kit as what you got.

Calm down grasshopper. Morebeer recommends WLP200 and Wyeast 1028. The first is a blend of American and English yeast strains, and the second is purely an English yeast. You'll be fine with either Safale-05 or 04 if you go the dry yeast route. I would recommend 04 for this one though.

More Beer, as well as many other homebrew kits rarely come with yeast included. This gives the brewer the option to chose whichever yeast they prefer.

Not meaning to kick you when your down but it is made clear on their website. Rest assure, you aren't the first new brewer to make this mistake. Learn, and brew on! Should be a fun brew to make!

I have two packs of US-05 and one pack of S-04 I could put in the mail. They are old though. The 05 is dated 11/2014 and the 04 is dated 02/2014. They've been refrigerated since I bought them.

Thank a lot for the assist here. Now that I have some direction on which yeast to buy, we can move forward! WHEW! All's right with the world now.

As far as the website, my screen actually covers up that little tidbit about the no yeast and you have to click "expand section". I've been had. We have LEARNED today.:D

No problem. Let us know how it turns out

I'm just going to add I recommended a dry yeast as it was going by post... I only get liquid when I'm going to the shop and can get it straight home (4 hour drive).

Best of luck with the brew, if all goes well may I recommend washing some yeast, there is a great sticky on the subject and you will never have this problem again.

So I got the yeast in the mail yesterday.... along with 100$ worth of other goodies including the next beer (American Honey Ale) I used the S-04 and the Maple Bacon was brewed and is fermenting as of this afternoon. Thanks again for the direction as to what to order. I'll update as updates become available.:mug:

So I kegged the Sky Raider Maple Bacon today. I ain't gonna lie.... it taste friggin' good. She's on 30 # of C02 now until tomorrow or the next day. The uncarbed stuff had a clean maple bacony flavor. Not bitter or sour. The first batch I did has a sour note (from the pectins in the blackberries methinks. I pasturized them @ 170 for ~8 minutes.) Thanks again for the input.:mug:

Also, sorry for the thread name.... at the time I really did need help but some folks wanted an update so I wanted to provide it. Please carry on.
