Hi all!

I made an oversight buying my hops and I'm planning to brew my NE IPA recipe tomorrow. Typically I use an ounce of magnum for my bittering hop (everything else post-boil), but I apparently forgot to buy them and my LHBS is closed now (grains are already crushed for brew day tomorrow). I like using it because it's a nice neutral bitter, could I sub in an ounce of Amarillo I have on hand?

Other subs I have on hand: centennial, citra, mosaic, and galaxy. I'm leaning toward Amarillo due to the similar alpha levels, but any help/input would be appreciated. I'm looking for anything that'll give me the cleanest bittering with minimal flavor addition. Thanks!

I could also probably sub in a Columbus if I had to, but I'd prefer to keep an ounce handy for the flavor component of my recipe.

This is just me and most wont agree with this but when I make a NEIPA I dont add a single hop till FO.

I recently brewed with 100% Amarillo and it came out good. I only used 1/2 ounce at 60 minutes. Most of my hops were added at 10 minutes and after. And dry hopping of course.

You can use any one of the hops you mentioned. Just get your calculator out and calculate how much you need to create the same bitterness that you would have from the magnum.

With 60 minute additions; there is no flavoring gained and only bitterness at that point.

I usually only use cheap high AA hops for bittering and I would suggest that you do the same. I just bought a pound of nugget for $5 and it'll last a while. There's no reason the use flavor hops for bittering.
