Hi everyone! For over a year I was wondering how beer was made. A few months ago I was talking to a friend and learned that he was into homebrewing. Thanks to him I started researching and learning. Thats how I encounter this great forum.

Last month my wife got me a MrBeer kit which I started right away. I was not satisfied with the result and once again before I knew it my wife got me a 5gal starter kit from Midwest.

I got started on a pale ale that came with the kit. It has been in fermenter for a week now. I do not have a secondary yet so I think it will stay there for about 3wks as there is no more activity going on in the air lock (unless you pros advise other wise) and then bottle condition for about 2-3more wks.

Look forward to share results and experiences with you all!

Welcome aboard. Glad you stepped up to the 5 gallon kits. You'll be glad you did. Don't get me wrong you can make some decent beer with Mr Beer (that's where I started too). But for just about the same amount of work you can make twice as much really good beer.
You'll be fine leaving it in your primary bucket. Most often people leave it in primary unless it's a bigger or more complicated recipe with some additions in a secondary. Plus leaving it in primary your yeast will clean your beer up and it'll be easier keeping your hands off it. It's harder learning patience when you have it in the bucket rather than full bottles calling your name
