Hi everyone,

I'm brand new to brewing beer, I love drinking it and thought, "Why not start making it." So, I got some equipment and a couple of kits from someone in the neighbourhood. My purchase included the following:

- a 23 litre glass carboy
- a piece of plastic hose
- airlock
- funnels
- 1 Coopers Dark Ale canister with yeast
- 1 Coopers brewmaster pilsner canister with yeast

At first I was just going to follow the directions on the beer kit, but then decided that I should look around online for some advice first because I would like to get an enjoyable beer at the end. So, here I am.

I've decided to start the pilsner first and found that I should probably get some light, dry malt extract and use corn sugar instead of regular granulated sugar. I haven't gotten these things yet, so if you fine folks have any other advice for me I'd greatly appreciate it.

A bit about myself, I'm 28 years old, I work as an Analytical Chemist and really enjoy beer. I come from a city where there are microbreweries everywhere and they make amazing beer. When I was in college we had class field trips to a few microbreweries as a study in microbiology and chemistry, those were some of the tastiest classes I've ever had. :D

I also enjoy hockey, hiking, guitar, beaches, fishing, fish keeping (I've got a 30G tank), origami, science and much more. I'm a little bad a keeping up with forums as I don't use the computer at home that much, so I may not post very often, but do look forward to being a part of this home brew community.

Cheers,
Shelley

Really there is no distinction between table sugar and corn sugar and using it isn't a problem if you want alcohol and less body in a beer. Just remember to use nutrients with it to avoid leaving your beer short.
