Ran across this site and had to get involved - this looks like a great resource.
The wife and I tried a Mr. Beer kit about 10 years ago ( I know... I know... ) and it was so meh that we didn't try a second batch.
This time, after some reading and a good bit of prodding from a buddy who's an up-and-coming vintner ( including some equipment and well worn 'How to Brew' and 'Joy of Homebrewing' books ), here we go.
My first batch is in its first week in the secondary: an extract kit with Coopers Canadian Blonde and some Light LME. From reading/lurking in the newbie's forum, it seems that I've made some of the classic silly mistakes ( like not taking an OG reading ) - but I'm not holding out any expectations on this first batch... it's just a starter.
I'll bottle on Friday, and have some beer on 1/31/11.
I can't wait!
