Hello everyone!! I found this site looking for some answers to questions (like how to read a hydrometer - we don't need to start a new thread about that!). I just bottled my first home brew, just a basic wheat with some cherry flavoring. I pretty much went off the instructions with the malt extract, and a bit from the book I got with the home brew kit I bought. It is the one on the Sam Adams website that they recommended.

First question for the board.....I am ready to get a new batch going. What would everyone recommend for a first or second home brew? I would like something good, but fairly simple as I am new at this. Will be going to the next meeting of fellow home brewers around here and hopefully learn more there!

Welcome to HBT and the obsession! :mug:

If you like wheat beers I would recommend a hefeweizen, lots of fantastic flavour and a great summer beer. Or you could go in the opposite direction and make a nice stout of some sort. Nothing like a nice variety of flavours in your fridge. :)

Welcome!

Here's a shot of a finishing hydrometer with larger graduations making it easier to read. This one reads 0.970 which is pretty dry, but then again it's my Apfelwein.

Congrats on getting into a fascinating hobby.
If you're into wheat beers make an hefeweizen like bradsul recommended they are pretty easy to make, or if you are into hoppier beers brew a pale ale they are pretty easy to make and always hit the spot year round.
