Hey everyone,

Figured I should post my introductions since I've already used this ultra-helpful board a ton in the few months that I've been homebrewing. New to brewing myself, but not new to homebrewing in general. I've been hanging around with the guys of the nearby SouthCoast Homebrewers Association for years watching them do their thing and somewhere along the way, being a big beer connoisseur (aka snob), I become their official taster. I didn't start brewing myself though until this past spring when the wife bought me a True Brew bucket setup for my birthday.

I just bottled my third brew this weekend. The first was from a kit, the second a group brew with the SCHBA guys, and the third an extract recipe. Up next I'm going to be doing my first brew with a recipe I formulated myself for a Dark Rye Ale. In the future I hope to upgrade equipment and hopefully venture into the realm of mini-mashing.

Thanks to all for help already given and hopefully I'll be able to return the favor down the road.

Welcome from another MA brewer. We actually just bottled a dark Rye PA yesterday which turned out nicely.
Sounds like you already have a few brews under your belt. Welcome and enjoy the forum

always good to see another masshole homebrewer - welcome.

Moving up to a minimash is not really all that big a jump. And totally worth it IMHO. I minimashed for awhile before figuring out a way to go all-grain and still brew on my electric kitchen stove (split boil, 3.5 gallon batches). There's a great tutorial for building a minimash tun out of a 2 gallon water cooler. I'll see if I can find the link and will post it.

Cheers!

Edit - here's the link I mentioned - https://www.homebrewtalk.com/wiki/index.php/Making_a_Partial_Mash_mash_tun

I followed this pretty much to a T and it worked great.

Thanks for the welcomes. HOPcousin, I lived in Northampton and the surrounding towns for years. Damn do I miss living in the valley.

Good link, JLem, thanks.

The valley is a great place. We have valley malt now too doing up organic local grain. The beer is great around here. Where is Hull Ma?

Hull forms the southern tip of Boston harbor.

I still get out to the valley quite regularly (season ticket holder for UMass sports plus my wife's family is in S Hadley). I have a feeling I might be coming home with a car load from Valley Malt during future trips. I've had some craft beer with their product. Good stuff.
