Hi All!

I have been brewing on and off for a few years, and finally made the jump to All Grain brewing after moving from Portland, OR to Houston, TX just a few months ago. So far there's an IPA in secondary, and I'm starting the recipe planning process for my next few beers. Right now I'm thinking my lineup will be 1) Coffee Stout 2) NEIPA 3) PB&J Brown Ale

I've browsed these forums quite a bit, but felt it was time to start posting!

Howdy and welcome to Houston!

I'm sure you now realize that "cellar temperature" here (locally known as "garage temp") is about 95 degrees, but with good refrigeration and temp control you can still make some tasty brews. :mug:

There are a few decent LHBS but online+shipping will still be more cost efficient and provide the variety you seek.

Thanks! For LHBS I've visited DeFalcos and Farmboy, both seemed pretty well stocked! I'd love to get in on some group grain buys.
Any recommendations on homebrew clubs?

Luckily I'm in a small apt with an awesome patio. So it's not too spendy to keep the apt around 70F at all times, and I can brew on the patio! But this heat has been eye opening for me.

Welcome to HBT and Texas! The craft beer seen is a little behind here in Texas compared to Oregon. I made the trek from California about 10 years ago. Corpus Christi had zero breweries now we have 4. Houston is way better but still behind compared to the pacnorwest and Cali. The good news is you brew and can make what ever your heart desires. Ground water temperatures are a challenge for cooling wort but nothing you cannot overcome with refrigeration.

That explains a lot about my brews in Houston! I changed my chiller setup so I thought maybe it was just working less efficiently. Maybe I'll run a portion of it through an ice bath.

Where in Houston are you? There are a bunch of us in the NW (towards Tomball) that meet on the third Tuesday of every month. We are the TRUB club, look us up on Facebook. PM me for more info if you like.

Mid summer my ground water is 74 plus. My counter flow chiller just couldn't get me below 80. I had to make some changes to get at least into the 70s. I hate not being able to pitch yeast until the next morning. I

Welcome to the Lone Star State! Yes, the challenge here is getting your wort down to yeast pitching temps in the summer! I run an immersion chiller through an ice slurry and then on to my plate chiller to get it down to the low seventies in the summer time. Good Luck with your brews!

I'm downtown in the Montrose area. I found you guys on facebook and liked the page! I'll have to try to make a meeting, but I know I'll be out of town on the third Thurs of August.

Hi. Welcome to HBT! Ed

Thanks!:tank:

You need to put a couple of lawnmower beers in that lineup for Houston!

I'm apartment living so I try not to work too hard, but maybe a good homebrew lawnmower beer would be good for sitting around having a beer for those who are mowing the lawn.
