Hello all,

I'm relatively new to home brew and wine making and recently stumbled across these forums. I have just been searching the threads and soaking up all the knowledge.

Right now I have an all-grain noble pils on its primary and just bottled a cabernet sauvignon from a kit. There's so many brews I want to try but I'm thinking a dopplebock might be next in line, unfortunately it would be a bit out of season by the time it's ready.

Hi Mike..."new" and "all grain" huh? Doesn't sound like you're too new to this, or maybe you just jumped right into it with both feet. Anyway, I'm over in East Lansing, good to see some more Michigan brewers!

Welcome to the forums!

The only other batch I've brewed was a partial grain brown ale and it turned out pretty good (even though I had no idea what I was doing) so I figured what the hell and jumped right in. I enjoy reading through other peoples experiences and suggestions and using that to tune recipes on Beer Smith. Now I just need to start turning them out!

At first I was afraid to lager, but I have an old freezer with an external controller that I'm going to use.

Are there any home brew events in Michigan that would be fun to attend?

Sounds like you got the basics under control, which is biggest part. Fermentation temp control, yeast pitching rates, sanitation...

Down your way there is a Homebrew club that I recommend called Primetime Brewers. Good guys, very knowledgeable and friendly, and they know how to have a good time. Next to these forums, your best bet on experiencing new stuff.

Each May there is a "Homebrewer Appreciation Day" in GR area sponsored by Siciliano's Market. Great time, with a competition and door prizes and lots of beer and food. Highly recommended. Oh, forgot the musical entertainment usually as well.

Once in a while members from on here gather at someone's house and brew beer, drink beer, eat a lot of food, and just have a good time. I also highly recommend going to one of these. There are a few ways to brew and there is bound to be a different way happening and someone to talk to you about it at one of these gatherings.
