Hello Everyone,

I only dabble in brewing (beer and wine), but hope to get more involved in the near future. I'm also interested in distilling, both for beverage and fuel.

My main interest at present, though, is in plant breeding. I know an introduction is not the place to go into detail on this so hopefully someone can direct me to the most appropriate forum. I would like to discuss what you all consider important in a good grain for brewing. I have my own thoughts and will summarize those in my first post in whichever forum you think is best. I'm focused on winter grains and currently am working with multiple strains each of barley, rye, wheat, and oats. I hope to develop strains that are targeted to and acceptable by the micro-brewing and micro-distilling communities (and the pizza makers in the case of the wheat).

I look forward to many interesting discussions.

Thanks for pointing that out. I almost put a legal disclaimer in my first post, noting that I don't do any of that, but I suppose just mentioning the word could be construed as "discussion". In any case, my interest here is what brewer's think and want. There are other forums for other concerns. (Anyone know of a good pizza-making forum?)
