I have two of these. Could they be used with recirculating fans for cooling the coffin box? I'm wondering if blowing cold air across one of these would do anything or is that just a waste of time?

What would they be connected to? Heat sinks work by drawing heat from something and dissipating it through the surface area of the fins. (Think computer processor heat sink) just having them in the coffin with air circulating wouldn't do much I imagine.

The other aspect of a heat-sink is that it has a good thermal bond to whatever it's helping to cool (via heat dissipation as TerdFurgeson mentions). This is normally done with a flat surface-to-surface interface, and thermal compound to fill any of the small gaps. I'm not sure what you're trying to cool, but I don't think it will work.

I bought two of these a couple of years ago to cool a pair of amplifiers I was building. I used something else and have since sold those amps. I just ran across them and thought they may have some use in my coffin box using one of my recirc fans. The fans recirculate cold air from below into the coffin and back down again. My guess was this was a useless idea ;)
