I'm not saying that this would ever happen here, more of an FYI if you happen to trade on other sites.

AND serve as warning that seasoned traders will not allow to have the wool pulled over their eyes to anyone thinking of trying to rip anyone off.

If it happens to one of us, it is felt by the whole. We are a family here.

tl;dr: Several people got scammed out of a Bourbon County Vanilla Rye for counterfeit Assassin in which the bottles were consumed and refilled with another beer and rewaxed. The suspect had multiple usernames and traded under several of them.

I would hate to see any of my brothers or sisters on this site have the same thing happen to them, whether they trade here or not.

(Mods feel free to do what with this post as you see fit.)

I've never been fond of that site or anyone there (other than the HBT guys that use BA, obviously :mug:) I cannot say that I am surprised at all though. That being said...it really sucks for those involved that were cheated. HBT has good people and it doesnt seem like anyone here would pull a stunt like that!

Saw a post like that over there a few weeks ago and almost couldn't believe it. As many awesome traders that there are here theres always guys like that.

Karma is a b though.

This is nothing new in the "spirit" world. A man was arrested in Europe couple years back for filling wine bottles and labeling them with expensive French vintages.

I can say one thing that this guy got (or will get) what he deserves. Toppling Goliath has already banned him from the tasting room (they apparently were close with him before this all started) and other "locals" have pledged to find the guy and find out whats going on.

This man has no balls and deserves whatever is coming his way.

I remember the wine thing, I am led to believe that is still happening in high end wine.

I know bars refill liquor bottles with cheaper liquor and pass it off as brand name, a couple have been busted for it.

One more reason to drink beer at a bar instead of shelf liquor.

Or just stay home.

Thanks for the update on this guy, beer karma will always catch up with you.

This was the first thing that came to my mind on a "All Inclusive" resort vacation that heavily marketed their "top shelf" spirits selections. Meh. I was not there for the alcohol, but since it was included anyway ....

Wow, sure is a different world from homebrewing. The whole "rare beer" thing has seemed weird to me since I started brewing... Just make something similar! But I guess the collector's impulse is more than just wanting something that tastes great.

Westvleteren is a prime example.

St Bernardus is brewing the exact same beer, with the exact same yeast, grain, and hops as they were when they were under license to brew for Wesvelteren. Yet, you don't read/hear about anyone going ape for that beer.
