Hi all,

My wife and I just bought a new house in December, and fortunately she has allowed me to start a bar build in our basement. Most of the build is complete, but I figured I post some pictures here to see what you think. To those of you who have posted photos of your bar builds on this site, I really appreciate it, as I gathered many ideas from those threads. Let me know what you think. Hope you enjoy.

Thanks, everyone. Honestly, this is the first thing I've built since I made a small shelf in 9th grade shop class. So I'm kind of winging it and hoping it turns out OK. Anyway, I got the frame for the footrest built, and the sides attached. I decided to go with 1/2 inch birch ply for the sides. Nothing against oak, but I haven't seen birch used quite as much, and I like the grain in birch. Working on the top next.

I got the top put on this weekend. I'm not sure if this the standard way to do it, but I started with securing 1/4 inch ply to the frame. I then cut the 3/4 inch birch ply to fit, and secured it by gluing it to the 1/4 inch piece. I also screwed it in from underneath the 1/4 piece, so there are no drill/nail holes on the bar top. Seems to be very sturdy. Next I'll be adding all of the trim work. I'll also try to remember to get some pics of the shelving on the inside.

Dude....with all of that knotty pine on the walls, you gotta know that Hoppo is diggin' it! Nice work so far, can't wait to see it all come together. Cheers.

How did you attach the foot rails to the frame?

First, I made sure that the foot rail supports lined up with the supports of the bar frame. I wanted the foot rail to be about 8 inches high, and I knew there would be enough space between the top and bottom of the foot rail to fit a 2x4. So I just attached the foot rail supports to the bar frame supports using 2x4's. I also attached each section of the foot rail together using brackets.

I was able to get all of trim work done over the weekend. I think it's looking pretty good, especially for my low level of expertise. Again, the sides and top are birch ply, and all of the trim work is select pine. I was too cheap to buy the nice arm rails. I opted for strips of "outside corner" pieces instead, which looks pretty good as an alternative. I hope to get it stained in the next few days.

I was finally able to get it stained and a couple coats of poly on it. I still have another coat to put on but I had to put the TVs up to see how it would look. I used Minwax English Chestnut. Let me know what you think. ImageUploadedByHome Brew1402799634.684963.jpg

So I'm pretty close to having the basement wrapped up. Just waiting on a cue stick rack that's in the mail and need a few more bottles of liquor, and that should take care of it. Let me know what you think. Finally got the project completed. Recently installed the cue rack and I think everything is now in its place. I hope you all like it. The beer tastes a little better knowing I built this myself. Thanks for all of the feedback. Do you have dimensions on your build hawk? Also what kind of cost did you have in materials. This is so sick.
