have YOU brewed an amazing beer?

I'd love to brew an amazing beer. At this point, I'd be really happy just to brew a flawless beer. All my beers have some flaw that I can pick out even if others can't...off flavor, over-carbed, under-attenuated, too bitter, too sweet, etc, etc, etc. Some of them are still really tasty, but I tend to focus on the flaws.

You and me both...I like my beers, but others love them. I'm fine with that. I nick pick my brews to death.
 
Coming from someone with 100+ batches. I can say that a handful were really amazing. I mean, commercial level awesomeness. Repeating those recipes has been a different story. I'm a tweaker and always try to improve a recipe. Usually those outstanding ones are never as good the second or third time around
 
my beers are so amazing, it can subconsciously make you close threads out of shame. and this is coming from an expert palate. I've had over 7,000 different beers. I'll never give anyone my super-ultra-uber-maxi-duper recipe, but I will post a 4 hour video of my toilet while I chug beers and tell you how great I am.
 
I get critical with the minor aspects of my beers, but for the most part I have my process down to the point that nothing I have brewed in past 4 years has been less than "solid." And I'm happy about this fact. I'm glad to finally be at that point in my brewing where I don't have to worry any more and have my system down with all the kinks worked out.

As far as an 'amazing' beer, I leave that type of assessment to the judges at BJCP competitions.

This past year I got a 45/50 averaged score for my Vanilla Whiskey-Barrel Coffee Breakfast Stout at the Coal Country Brewer's Cup in Accident, MD and got 3rd place in Best of Show. I'll take that as 'amazing' since I've rarely even scored above a 37 in most competitions and it was more than I had hoped for. But yeah, on a personal note, I did enjoy that beer quite a bit, and apparently others did too. :D

By far my favorite recipe we've ever made. It's such a good IPA, honestly. We drank them waaaaay too fast :(

Given it to friends and family and the responses are all, across the board, "you made this?" It would do ever better with Pale Ale water, but I haven't gotten into water chemestry yet. I highly recommend it to new all grain brewers. It was our first all grain and was actually very straight forward to make. I'm torn between making it again and trying a new style...

I go to the masses, judges are fine and good but after tasting beers all day...and beers like a vanilla whiskey barrel coffee breakfast stout your taster gets outta whack. Not saying your beer isn't awesome, but big IPAs, DIPAs, Crazy Stouts all take a toll on the tasters. I often wonder if order didn't play a bigger role in scores than anything else.
 
I have had beers that I drank and was very surprised at how good it was. My first Irish stout was that way, and since I've gone all grain about 2/3rd's have really been beyond my expectation. Amazing? Maybe not but pretty damn good!

I made my first clone (2 Hearted ale) and my brother said he was going all grain because it came out so well!

Ive only been doing this about 18 months. With 36 batches done, I know Ive got way more to learn than what I know. Having said that, Ive made several that myself and others were surprised that I made. Its been encouraging! Watching kegs tap out in 3 evenings has been bittersweet. Especially the aged high ABV ones :eek: Lots of room to move forward
