Has anyone ever seen a Mash Tun like this, but in 15 gal?

I have been wanting to upgrade my system this year, and move to a proper 15 Gallon kettle (going for @SpikeBrewing boil kettle) But I can't find a good Mash Tun. The closest I can find is from SS Brew Tech:
https://www.ssbrewtech.com/collections/mash-tuns/products/infussion-mash-tun

(and if @SpikeBrewing does pop in on this.. can you make one? how much?)

I really want the double walled stainless steel, but I want 15 gallon capacity. I could go 10, and just do 6 gallon batches of big beer (quads/stouts/porters), but I like to do 12 gallon batches.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Dont they still make the 20 gallon capacity one? Most people here seem to end up going with a rims or herms with a regular kettle mash tun which makes these unnecessary from a practical standpoint.

The 10 gallon kettle seems perfect for a 12 gallon batch as long as you sparge some.

You could even batch sparge with what water/liquor doesn’t fit in the mash tun right in your brew kettle, using a bag.
Just lift the bag out of the mash tun and into the kettle.
Then get rid of the bag and transfer the wort from the mash tun to the kettle.

Edit to add: the less headspace you have the better.
*Chapman has a 15 gallon tun.

I have a direct fired MT, and recirc when I need to raise temps a couple degrees. Gives more options, and can use the pump for many other things, too.

We see you put up the Spike Signal! Are you looking to only do single infusion mashes? Are you running a direct fire system or electric. If you give us some details I know our engineers can help ya out!

ss does still make the 20 gallon insulated mash tun designed to be big enough to do 10 gallon brews of bigger beers where 15 gallons isnt big enough.(there is a thread here about how big a mash tun actually needs to be for some beer styles).. Ive never needed more than my 16 gallon tun so far myself but Ive come close on a couple beers.

Just keep in mind stainless is an excellent conductor and poor insulator by comparision to plastic so these tend to not hold temps quite as well as a cooler (which is why you never see an actual metal lined cooler anymore) they will certainly last longer without warping and hold up to abuse longer though.

You know you guys are my home town shop..so you get first dibs on my ching. I am doing 2 vessel brewing for big batches, single infusion for 6gal batches. That means I'm recirculating from my boil kettle into my mash tun.. (I am usually within .2 on my gravity in BeerSmith.. so everything is working great) Mash Tun needs to have the ability to circulate (with pump) in and out.... the mash tun needs to have 2 thermometers one top, one bottom, an inlet in the top and one on the bottom. I'll be using quick release on everything, so camlock fittings across the board. I think that's about it. Boil kettle will be a normal 15 gal boil kettle.
I like the double walled format, mainly for the heat dissipation, but if you could ever figure out how to make mash tuns like they make Yeti cups, you guys would be bazillionairs. In the mean time, let me know if you can do double walled.
Let me know if you need more info.

AugieDoggy, thanks for the heads up. I am thinking the double walled nature of the SSBT Mashtun will help insulate better, much like a Yeti Cup does.. So I'm hoping that there is a similar version of it out there. 20 is too big, 10 is too small.. I like doing imperial stouts, imperial porters, etc..and at 26lbs of mash space for 10 gallons, I'm just using too much grain. I can resort to using DME, but I don't want to. For instance, my Belgian Dark Strong, I had to add 3lbs of DME just because i couldn't fit enough grain in. I kinda want to avoid that for next time.

~Cheers!

I have the 20G and for an imperial, I wouldn't want anything smaller. If your grain bill calls for 40lb grain and you mash at 1.5qt/lb, you're at 15 gallons of water before you even add the grain.

BTW, if you haven't picked up your kettle yet, I would recommend matching it to a 20G kettle if that's do-able. For smaller beers with a little fermcap, you will find that you're able to do 15 gallon batches (at least with the SS Brewtech since you get a few bonus gallons). I have had a lot of fun splitting batches between 3 different yeast strains and comparing the results.

Shoot us an email at [email protected] and our sales manager, Ryan, or brewing engineer, John, can assist with a design. At this time we don't have anything double walled but we have can still certainly assist!
