I've brewed to extract kits and just finished brewing my second partial mash. I'm looking forward to finding some brew junkies in the northern NJ area (and other places) to toss ideas etc back and forth with. Happy Brewing Everyone!

Greetings from Long Valley Morris County, home of the the Long Valley Brew Pub! Got a Mr. Beer for Christmas. Already ordered additional hops/extracts, and just got back from a trip to the Gaslight brewpub and U brew store in South Orange NJ (my closest supplier) for muslin hop sacks and some more yeast. Needed to get the Saflager 23 because not a room in my house gets to 68 degrees in the winter! (Much to the wife's chagrin). Can't wait to get my other ingredients and start bruin'! I'm sure it won't be too long before I upgrade to a 5 gallon sys. My wife has no idea what can of worms she has opened.

Welcome to the obsession ;) I'm in Lake Hopatcong, soon to be moving to Port Murray. If you ever want to hook up for some brews, give a shout!

That goes for you other Jersians, too :D

Welcome! Just down 287 in Piscataway.

There are quite a few folks from Jersey here....are we all homebrewing to save up for our property taxes?

I recieved a Coopers Microbrew kit to and have quickly added 2 additional carboys and all the trimmings. This is a VERY addictive hobby!:rockin:

Blipp, I'm right down the street in Parsippany. I've only been brewing for a few months with a neighbor. As for groups I believe there is one out by Hackettstown NJHopz or something like that.

wHALES isn't accepting new members, though. too damn crowded! i'm in filthy Middlesex County:rockin: it sucks but i make the best of it. the only good thing is Harvest Moon, Pizzaria Uno and JJ Bittings are all within approx 15 min from me. there are also about 8 major highways within a stones throw <smog cough>

My inlaws live right near JJ Bittings. That's a cool place to go.

Who the @#$@ is spreading that inaccurate bull? The WHALES have never, ever, capped membership. Seriously. I want to know so that I can make sure they are corrected.

Oh, by the way, welcome to HBT blipp!

Hey Nostalgia, if you're interested, I have a 1980 Triumph Spitfire, not currently running, good for parts maybe. It's been sitting in my sister's barn for years. Good to hear about the Hackettstown group, that's only 15 min from me.

welcome blipp... good to see a strong jersey representation! there is a bulk grain buy going on if you guys are in the need. it is being delivered to brooklyn and the prices are un-freaking-real! like under $30 for a 55lb sack of marris otter.. check out the thread, i will be happy to bring back sacks for anyone, i am in essex county.

read this on HBT, sorry didn't mean to contribute to misinformation and be apart of the problem. i stand corrected. no offense tho, i've been to one club meeting and when i walked upstairs in JJBittings it was overly crowded and i could not find a place to sit down. being new i figured someone would shout "welcome i'm suchNsuch, have a seat, have a beer, join our mailing list, etc." Instead it was a room of full of zero unoccupied seats and everyone engaged in their own conversations, naturally. i didn't feel very welcome and decided to go home to have a beer in the comfort of my own living room. call it what you will, sounds like you've maximized your space.:( i've since met a member, Jim from EB, who i think i will join for a meeting in the near future though.

It certainly stinks that you got lost in the shuffle. It's definitely a recognized problem with any group that grows too quickly. We do have at least 45 people coming to every meeting and that's out of 65 members. We get about 2-4 new people every month and at least half of them join right away. It makes it hard to even know when a brand new face shows up. I always encourage new folks to come a little early and introduce yourself immediately and catch a seat. Anyway, if you want to give it another shot, I'll save a seat for you at my table and I guarantee you'll have a different experience. That goes to anyone out there on HBT.

I'm by Hackettstown. How do I get started with NJHopz? BTW, my very first batches hit the fermenters yesterday and already bubbling away! I feel like a proud new dad! A 1776 ale and Bombay Bliss IPA. I keep running down the basement to check on 'em. Why I don't know. Like I expect 'em to sprout heads or something!
