Just bottled, and my gravity is at 1.1 does that mean my beer is very weak on the alcohol side? Is a brown ale with honey added to it. Everything was done by the book.

Very worried.

Your FG was 1.100? What was your OG? How long did you let it ferment? What were you brewing? What were your target OG and FG?

The target was 1.020 sorry I was missing zeros. The OG was not taken this is my first one.. The FG is 1.010 It was the the primary for 4 days and the secondary for 9 days.

The lower FG actually means your beer will have a higher alcohol content. It also means that you beer will be a little dryer than intended. I wouldn't worry about it too much, you most likely still have a decent product.

Well if you overshot your FG but your OG was on target then you'd have higher ABV. Hard to tell what the final result is without knowing the OG, though.

With an OG of 1.050 I would say that 1.010 is closer to the proper FG than 1.020. Sounds like your instructions were off.

Well my instructions said 3 to 5 days. So I went 4. And yes that would have been the target OG. So lets say I hit that or damn near close (1.050) and now have a FG of 1.010 what would that mean alcohol wise? I got freaked out when I saw on the side of my hydrometer that, that was like a little over 1%

By the way thanks for the speedy responses! This is a wondeful fourm!

5.25% !!! Wicked! Thats what I was hoping for!

Where does the 131.25 come from is that just a constant that never changes?

Yep.

And as for the Alcohol percentage on the hydrometer, you have to subtract the final reading from the original...so your original on that scale was probably around 6.5%. Most don't use that scale as it's hard to get accurate results.

He said 4 days in primary, then 9 days in secondary.

Still REALLY quick. I have had beers that didn't finish fermenting for more than 10 days. I would be surprised if the beer was really ready to transfer at 4 days.

It has been questioned many times why so many kit instructions have such inadequate, misleading instructions. The consensus seems to be that they want to sell more kits. I'm glad that I read a lot before I started brewing and had forewarning that the instructions were "weak".
