Just made mead.
As couldnt tell what the hydrometer was saying.
Wel after a couple of chaps helped me sort this.

I've worked out my reading is only 1042. whats really low for a mead/wine.
so should i put more honey in?
Its already has yeast in it.
Yet, its not start fermenting.

Thanks.

Its started with joes mix just added pears :)

One orange,
Three pears,
Clovers and fives spice.
And honey (340g)

At that point i boiled it,
then i tried it and it taste like lem sip cough stuff, so i added one litre of orange juice.
then topped up to the gallon with water.

:)

340g is nowhere near enough honey for a 1 gallon batch. Im assuming your reading was 1.042 SG. that will come out to 5.84% ABV. I use about 1500g per 1 gallon (US) to get about 13-15%ABV. You should go poke around over at gotmead and play around with the mead calculator.
Oh and to answer your question, I would add more honey, about 3-4x more. or just start over.
