I'm just getting back into Homebrewing after more than a 20 year brake, after getting a Mangrove Jack starter brewing kit for christmas.

One of my first memories is watching the old man brew beer in a plastic bin with a couple of bin liners. All I know is what he taught me and what I have read here over the last few days.

Most of the trade talk goes right over my head, I only worked out how to use the Hydrometer properly the other day, as it took me 6 months to get started on the brewing.

A few weeks ago a blog on Wild Apple Cider triggered me into action, I have been making about 2 liters a night (1/2 gal) of a sweet low alcohol Apple Cider, as I didn't know how to use the Hydrometer I would guess that at the most I was getting 3% alcohol in about 3 days quick chilling and drinking, I am happy with the flavour but want to get the alcohol up to over 5%.

Also I have just bottled a 30 liter (6 gal) barrel of Apple Cider that started at 1.050 and ended at 1.000 using a Cider yeast M02, from what I have read here this could be hit or miss as I have gone straight from the fermenter to the bottle as I would have done if it was beer. I had a wee taste last night, it is so dry and bitter I had to had 1/4 Apple Juice and several teaspoons of sugar to make it drinkable.

I will brew the beer that came in the kit next so I know I will have something to drink. So I don't have to ask a whole lot of stupid questions where can I learn about the terminology use in brewtalk.

Hey mate. Fellow qlder here. Hope you drank a beer or two on state of origin night. :). So anyhow hope your interests keep sparked and you produce some nice brews.
As far as terminologies are concerned there are a few differences between us and our northern hemisphere counterparts. I restore old cars ( chevs) and still laugh at terms like trunks and hoods. We're so close but worlds apart in some terms. :).

Welcome back to your obsession! Since Mad Max was filmed there, I wonder if you see copies of the pursuit special, the goose's bike, etc running around?

Welcome to HBT mate.

A former wannabe QLD'er here. Lived in beautiful FNQ (Cairns) for a few years. A far cry from where I'm at now.

Don't even see many XB's on the road these days, let alone a XB GT coupe, and I am sure the owners of these rare beauties won't be modifying them.

Yeah, I saw a video where they mentioned how few XB GT's were actually built. But the pursuit special kit is quite popular. And there's plenty of help on here for beer, cider, mead, etc that you could ever need, so ask away! :mug: When I was still working at Ford in Cleveland, Ohio's CEP#1, we built 302 CI small blocks for the Australian Falcons, but those were the days when we were still installing Holley carbs on them.

So cool I am just about to post my Intro after being away from the brew hobby almost 20 yrs....how did we get led astray? Oh yea...wife, kids..family commitments..money...
