Hello all, I've been reading the posts on here for months and finally have a question to post! I bottled a Belgian Trippel that I let sit in a secondary for a few months just last Sunday (May 19th). Tonight I got a little anxious and opened one to see how if was going. To my dismay....it is still completely flat! Not one bit of carbonation. Is this cause for alarm? Or is this just a newb bottling question?

Welcome!

Wait another 2 weeks, it should be carbed by then. Beers that have been aged signifigantly in the fermenter often take longer to carb as a well since they have less yeast in suspension.

If the beer is flat after a month, try storing the bottles in a warmer place (75 F or so) and/or turning them to stir up any yeast present.

I made a batch of grand cru (OG 1.104) that carbed really unevenly...one bottle exploded shortly after bottling, another one was flat 6 wks after bottling, and the third one was just right (4-5 months later).

Thanks guys, I'll wait a few weeks to try another one. After reading a few other posts I'm betting I have some uneven mixing of my sugar as well. The beer I opened was the last on I bottled, thus I'm thinking it was at the top of the bucket and didn't get mixed with as much of the sugar. I guess only time will tell. Thanks regardless.

I let that batch sit a full four weeks. Dude, it turned out perfect!!! I have good carbonation, eventually I'd like to get some carbonation like Duvel has, but that will have to be an ongoing project. Unless anyone's got a recommendation for getting that sort of carbonation for my Trippel?

Have you tried pouring into a tulip glass (aggressive pour down the middle)?

It might be that you just need to pour differently into a different glass.
