I am planning on doing a partial mash this week and I am using brewtoad and brewers friend to calculate my recipe. There both way different on the ABV. This my attempt at an Irish red Ale it will be a 5.5 gallon batch
My fermentables are
5 Lbs of LME-Maris otter light
4 Lbs of American 2 row this will be mashed along with
10 oz of biscuit malt
8 oz of 120
4 oz of roasted barley
With two ounces of Goldings hops
White labs liquid yeast with a starter
Brewtoad says my final ABV will be 5.6%
Brewers friend is saying 4.15%
I want it to be around the 5.5-6% range and I really don't want to screw this up. There both set to partial mash. Thanks for reading.

I brew it to 5 gallons, straining the chilled wort into the fermenter. you'll wind up with less trub, more beer & a hair higher ABV. Also mash at 153F for an hour. That'd give a good amount of fermentables.

I use Brewer's Friend. You can set your Brewhouse Efficiency. I'm guessing BrewToad also has something similar. I'm guessing that Brewtoad's setting for efficiency is higher that what you have set for Brewer's Friend and that is why you see different expected ABV's.

Usually the default setting for Brewer's Friend is like 60 or 70%.

Actually this is what I found out it was default at 30. I set it to 75 and actually got 82% so that's good. Can't wait to try one.
