I haven't used in your recipe , I used it for first time last night . Airlock was active 3 hours later and it's been going off like a machine gun ! It's awesome I like the muntons yeast , great price it's the best I've tried.
Only thing I've used brewing a few batches with a friend was wyeast smack packs and those turned out good. Not really worried about spending a few extra bucks on liquid if anyone thinks it would be better or us 05
Any experience with Muntons or should I go us o5. Not sure if I'll have any temp control on this first one. Got my eyes on a set up on Craig's list but gotta wait till I get paid and see if I can swing it. So would that make any difference in my choice. Have read that the Muntons yeast goes kinda crazy
I think the Munton's is like the Cooper's ale yeast. I've had good results with rehydrated Cooper's that gives some fruity esters to English style ales. US-05 is very similar in performance to the Cooper's in my experiences. But the Cooper's ale yeast is high flocculation, whereas the US-05 is low to medium.
Flocculation rate is how well/easilly the yeast settles out when it's done fermenting/cleaning up fermentation by products. Attenuation is the percentage that expresses how much the yeast ferments out.
The Cooper's high flocculation yeast can settle out clear in primary when it's done. I've had US-05 at that same point look slightly misty, clearing after a couple days in the bottles at warm room temps. Even the adds on supply websites list US-05 as low to medium flocculation. But it gives a cleaner flavor that is desireable in American ales.
Looks like I missed out on the fridge I was gonna get any tips on not using one. It's pretty cold here in tx and I keep the house between 65-70 but have a back room that stays cool cuz i leave the vent shut
Yeah,US-05 can ferment lower than Munton's or Cooper's,which get sluggish below 64F. US-05 works ok down to 60F or so. I like to keep temps in the mid-60's regardless.
