Hello I am doing my first BIAB brew an I have a question is a mashout needed? I figure sense your doing it all in one brew pot that one can just Lyft the bag out an let it drain into the brew pot an as it’s draining start heating to boil an that would act as your mashout....

I've brewed 64 batches of all-grain, some with a traditional mash tun, some BIAB, some now with a RIMS system to control mash temp.

Never have I done a mashout. When I did BIAB I simply lifted the bag, set it to draining (I also squeezed it to get out what I could), and began heating.

Some argue a mashout helps lautering, but with BIAB there isn't any lautering. You're just draining.

BTW, best description of BIAB compared to traditional mash tun I've ever read: with a traditional mash tun, you remove the wort from the grain. With BIAB, you remove the grain from the wort.

No mash out needed. All it does is stop conversion by raising the temp to kill the enzymes. I believe stopping the enzymes helps with not drying out a beer and increased mouthfeel. As soon as you lift the bag fire the kettle. Virtually the same effect as a mash out. I've been brewing BIAB for a while and never had an issue with no mash out.

You are correct. The only "mash out" you will need to do is pulling your mash out of the BK, suspend it above the BK and start your boil.
