I opened my bucket for the first time after about 9 days of fermenting. I checked the SG and it was 1.020 but there was hardly any foam on top, although the liquid level has gone down.. Why isnt there much foam..? Should I be worried..? I tasted it and it actually tasted pretty good.. Its American Amber Ale...

I am sure you are fine, after high krausen the foam pretty well drops off a lot, the yeast are still likely on cleanup duty or possibly still fermenting. We would need to know the starting gravityof your batch, the fermentation temp as well as the yeast used to get an accurate estimate if it is done, grav seems a bit high yet so I may leave it for another few days and check again.

Is this from an extract kit? I made several batches of American Amber from extract kits and not all had a large amount foam showing. I let these beers stay in the primary for 3-4 weeks before bottling, especially if buckets are in the colder basement.

Your beer showed be just fine.

yes its an extract kit.. Im sure its fine.. just nervous, I want my very first batch to turn ok good... Thanks for the info

Put the lid back on it an leave it alone for 2 weeks and then bottle letting that sit for a month. Don't get carried away. The beer will taste way better if you leave it alone and buy some decent beer from the store.
