A friend and I are getting into it finally. He actually started first by seeing a brew kit at Williams-Sonoma from Brooklyn Brewers for $10. Had everything including a one gallon glass carboy. It's his second batch and my first. We did an all grain New Castle clone. Two separate one gallon batches.

All in all I have to say it's not all that difficult. The hardest part was waiting for the 60 minute boils to end. I am sure the more deeper we get into it, the more work it'll be.

More like the deeper you get into it,the more enjoyable it'll be. you start getting a good process down,& it actually gets easier. More recipes start coming to mind,& you find yourself not being able to concentrate on much else. Are you sure you guys wanna live this way?:D

Welcome to Home Brew Talk, a great place to hang out and talk with great people and experienced brewers. It starts out like wow, this is cool! Progresses to how can I upgrade and expand, becomes a passion ... a delightful and delicious passion!

Best of luck on your first brew! Your kit sounds like a good deal, but be careful, soon you'll upsizing for 5 gal. batches. ;)

And get used to waiting, because there is a lot of it. Waiting for a boil, waiting for fermentation to complete, waiting for bottle conditioning...

He's the one with the gear for now. I promised my wife I would hold off on equipment till I drank the 15 gallons of beer I have in the basement from a brew your own shop.

Not sure if I'll go with a bigger batch than a one gallon. I tend to switch it up alot. I'll invest in a few carboys to keep a couple batches going.
