Just got my score cards back from my first competition. I entered a wee heavy that didn't place but scored a 35. I feel good about it. Any thoughts?

35 isn't a bad score at all. Plus, you can use the subjective notes of the judges to apply towards your next batch. Comps can be helpful in getting an outside opinion, just remember that not everybody tastes beer the same.

I've heard that anything over a 30 can be reason for feeling good about what you're doing. What feedback did you get, anything good?

Still need to get around to that first comp here....

35 is a very solid score - I have had a number of beers place (even win categories) with 35's. Scoring can be rather subjective - as some judges tend to score higher and others lower. Consider the comments and critiques that went with the score - hopefully there were some things there that you can use in future brewing.

sounds good. My best last year at Kona was a 27. Hope to do better this year but I'm not entering the same but improved brews.

Judge told me it was a little under attenuated. Makes sense because I was making starters in a growler without a stir plate. Since that beer I've been making starters on a stir plate. Also said a little under carbed for a wee heavy. I'm gonna make these changes and enter it again. I feel good about it
