First Brew

OK, I'm now the newest brewer around. I just got my kit from midwest supplies and I'm gonna start a batch of Irish Red Ale on Tuesday. If anybodies got any tips they feel I should know before I start that first batch please lay em on me.

Be very sanitary with anything that touches the beer after the boil and cooling the wort. I hope that you have sanitizer such as Starsan. Wash any brewing equipment with PBW (Brewery Wash) and then sanitize. If you are bottling then sterilize the bottling bucket and bottles and include the caps too. Sterilize hoses or racking cane with Starsan just before use.

And if you have oxygen-absorbing caps, don't sanitize them by boiling, or by bleach. You need to soak them in some high-proof booze. I pick up a $5 handle of Barton vodka for that very purpose.
