First Brew - Festa Brew Brown Ale

Hi All,

Thanks to everyone who has already given me some great advice.

Just started a Festa Brew kit and after only 6 hours it was already fermenting. Plan to rack to secondary after primary then cold crash and Keg (yes I already got Kegs) I will post my progress.

Congrats on your 1st batch,& welcome to home brewers anonymous. Just make sure you give your brew all the time it needs to reach FG & clean up after itself. And don't forget aging time. Carbonation & conditioning are two completely separate issues. You can replace carbonation,but not aging. Since bottles do both at once,many don't stop to realize this.

Just racked to secondary ( I am going to try not racking on my wheat beer to make up my own mind on the great debate ) I checked the hydro reading and its right where it need to be after 12 days in primary at 65C. When I was racking a couple of cups spashed at the bottom of the carboy because the siphon tubing moved on me. I quickly stopped it and reajusted. Do you think that my beer will be oxididied and have the dreaded cardboard taste? I talsted it when I took a reading and it was awesome, kind of wish I took some more for later. Even though it wasn't carborated it did have a little fizz that I wasn't expecting

Here is a pick of the siphon phase ( currently finishing basement as well, can't have to many new projects at once) i want to build a keezer but I think it will have to wait!

Oxidation takes a good long time to take effect IIRC, and a little splashing isn't going to be the end of the world. You're fine.

The main threat of Oxidation comes from splashing the wort around when it is over 80 degrees, once you've cooled it down it isn't as big of a deal.

Also there is a few inches of headspace in the secondary carboy. Since primary is done is it a big deal that there is Air in the carboy that wont be pushed out by co2?

The bung for the carboy kept slidding out of the carboy so i used the ole Canadian solution of duct tape to keep it on. I will post a pic its pretty funny
